Thoughts on this fight now that Okami will fill in for injured Kampmann

For me I think it should be an interesting fight and I kno Okami does no have as much time to prepair but I like him as a fighter and think he is very underrated in the UFC.....Im gonna have to take Okami in this one regardless the outcome I see this fight really letting us see where Franlklin is in fighting a potential number 1 contender

and hey its free:D

Ill tell you whats not right. he took one of the most savage beatings in UFC history. It will take time to be back at the level of confidence he once had.

I was there and you could Hear his nose SNAP and the air come out when his ribs cracked. It looked like a street beating to me!! Quick, one sided, and devastating.

Im never phased and I was like...whoa
I was really concerned for his health.

Franklin looked a little off in his last fight against McDonald, but he pulled out a nice Victory?! Now that he has to take on Okami instead of Kampman, I still see him Winning...

And I agree I still see him winning. But Im SURE there is a mental struggle at home and in the gym that will be the bigger test.

Honestly, that was a TOUGH Jason McDonald. If Franklin can stay away from Swicks mistakes then he will win. Swick didn't swing enough. Swick didn't use his strengths in his striking. If he would have then he would have won. Also, Swick opened up Okamis weakness. He got rocked quite a bit against the cage.

In Ireland there is a time difference and it ends up happening while the rest of us are eating breakfast or sawing logs. Anyway, to get the most viewers possible they end up airing it at 8 or 9 o'clock.

UFC 72 to Air Live on Spike TV
Posted by UFC Junkie on May 8, 2007 at 9:02 pm ET
Next month’s UFC 72 event, which now features a main event of former middleweight champion Rich Franklin vs. top contender Yushin Okami, will air on Spike TV. But unlike last month’s UFC 70 event, UFC 72 will air live from the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, Ireland.

That’s the word from UFC.com.

Although this is far from news to many readers, I’ve received more than a few emails asking how UFCjunkie.com will handle our coverage of UFC 72 on June 16. Some readers assumed the event would air via tape delay like last month’s UFC 70 event, which was held in Manchester, England.

However, a quick check of the “How to Watch” guide at UFC.com confirms that the event will air live on Spike TV and most other cable and pay-per-view providers in North America.

The broadcast kicks off at 3 p.m. ET, noon PT. (Belfast is five hours ahead of U.S. Eastern Time.)

UFC 72, which is the first UFC event ever held in Ireland, was originally scheduled with a main event of Franklin vs. Danish kickboxer Martin Kampmann. However, the UFC announced yesterday that Kampmann had been scratched from the bout with a knee injury, and this morning, UFCjunkie.com passed along Franklin’s announcement that he would instead fight Okami.

UFC 72 also features The Ultimate Fighter 1 light heavyweight winner Forrest Griffin vs. Hector Ramirez, undefeated heavyweight Jake O’Brien vs. Tom Murphy, rising contender Marcus Davis vs. Paul Taylor, and Jason MacDonald vs. Rory Singer.

For the (nearly) final fight card, check out UFC Rumors section here at UFCjunkie.com (www.ufcjunkie.com).

...sucks about the PPV thing, i know i won't waste the $40 on it, not enough good fights to make it worth it, especially with the time difference...in any case here are my thoughts on the fight. i do think Okami is very underrated, he is solid competitor and legit. However, why i see him falling to Franklin is simply because he couldn't really "put away" a much smaller and weaker Swick, plus even Swick got him with some shots that stung him a bit. Rich is much stronger than Swick so he won't get thrown around quite like Quick did, plus he is a more devastating striker. not as quick (n pun intended), but can definitely do more damage. Add it all up, and i see a chance at a rematch for Franklin v Silva...unless Nate Marquardt has his way, which is another story.

I am thinking they are going to be MAJORLY disappointed with the buyrate in the U.S. When will they realize people DO NOT want to be inside on a nice Saturday afternoon. Your right, fight card isn't that great either. This looks like an UFN more then a PPV

Everyone saying that Okami hasn't been training or didn't have enough time must not know that two weeks ago, he was taking part in the Abu Dhabi tournament.

In this fight... I only see one possible outcome - Rich Rich Rich. If you remember correctly, Alan Belcher and Okami both made their UFC debut's against one another. Okami could not finish Belcher. Don't get me wrong, I'm a BIG Belcher fan, and think he's a PHENOMINAL fighter - especially at 22 or 23 years old. However, we all saw what Kendall Grove did to Belcher, and Kendall's no where NEAR being on the level of the likes of Rich, Silva, Marquardt, and even Lutter or Swick. But then again, Okami owned Swick...

I realize that comparing fighters like that is somewhat ridiculous in that styles make fights... however, trying my hardest to put aside the fact that he is my favorite fighter, I have to believe that Rich will win this dominantly. I feel everyone is falling back on the "If Okami gets him down, then it's bad news for Rich" claim. However, that was the same claim for MacDonald and anyone remember that BEAUTIFUL butterfly sweep Rich pulled immediately upon hitting his back? Cause I sure do.

Rich by TKO late 3rd round!
