Has anyone ever seen an MMA person "forget" they are just in a BJJ tourney and throw an elbow, punch, knee or something similar?

Also, does anyone have any good stories about something at a tourney?

I can share one about a wrestling meet in high school.......

My Senior year we are up against our rivals Tri-County North and our 189 pounder is in a match against a guy he really doesn't like. Repeatedly, they tie up and muscle each other off the mat. Next thing I know, they start wrestling again and our guy gets thrown into the coaches chairs. Our guy is real hot tempered so he jumped up again and the ref stepped in between, warned them both and let the match continue. The next thing I know the other guy gets Judo thrown into the metal medicine box in our corner.

The match was called and both were disqualified.

that had to be a sight to see...pure comedy! i can see that happening quite often though. especially if one guy is getting owned and kind of loses it.

There was a BJJ vid floating around (sorry I dont have a link) where a guy throws his opponent into the small stand area where they hang all the banners. That had to be pretty painful.

I will take a look around and see if I can locate it for ya. All I know about it is some guy posted it on youtube (link was on sherdog) about his friend tossing everyone around in a tourney.

*edit* Sorry Ryan I couldnt find it. Looked through about 25 pages before all the topics started looking the same lol.

I tend to forget a lot of stuff when I'm "in the heat of battle." Usually simple crap like crossing my feet when I have the guys back. It was fine until they discovered that neat ankle lock they can do. As far as stories go:

I've been to three Judo tournaments. In the first and third were a school a few hours from us, and with them was a guy who learned to hate us named Brian, and he was a brown belt. First one involved my friend Joe, who was a blue belt at the time. They tie up and start trying stuff. Brian goes for a shoot, but Joe side steps him, wraps his arm around Brians face in mid-shoot, and throw/bends him over backwards, and lands right Brians face. Not very pretty looking. Later that same tournament, Brian has to face my buddy David, who was a Yellow belt. They're trying stuff, and David manages to get around behind him, and full on WWE German supplex's right on the back of his head. I was watching it, and David got damn near a foot of air off the mat. Brian was out, David wins. Cut to a few years later. David and I are with our dojo at another Judo tournament, both blue belts this time. Who do we see but Brian, who is still a brown belt. This time he faces me. He goes for a throw, but I just duck under, push him to the matt, plop my butt down on him hard, so his head pops up. I then bring my arm down across his face, almost breaking his nose, get a RNC sunk in, and arch back hard. He's bent back so far, he can hardly tap. Fight stops, I think I win because he tapped, but instead I get a point deducted for using an illegal choke, and he eventually beats me with a kasegatame. Poor guy, every time he faced one of us, we hurt him.

Speaking of interesting videos, here's one of BJ Penn as a white belt in a match against a blue belt. It ends in a way that I think might fit this thread...

He seemed like a cocky prick.... no offense. He walked away without seeing if he was ok. I mean, hell, even cage fighters check on their opponents.

I find that when I roll with someone in BJJ that also trains MMA, they tend to be a lot rougher then pure grapplers. Never seen one start throwing punches etc though :)

As far as I can tell it is. Rickson tells you not to do something...and you do it anyway. Either brave or stupid.....
