“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us most. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and famous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in all of us. And when we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” - Marianne Williamson

Not exactly the spirit of the thread, but a quote from a world class martial artist!
A while back at a judo camp after beating our asses, Igor Yakimov was lamenting the state of judo in north america and and looked over to the mat where some guys were working on a kata.
With a look that was a mix of sadness and mild disgust he said "too many black belt now. In soviet union, you want black belt, you must vin someting. No black belt for tying shoes or kata"
I still chuckle when I remember it.

In highschool our wrestling room had a few sayings hung up on the walls. None of them were specifically about martial arts, but all seemed fairly appropriate.
"Success is not a destination, but a journey." The internet credits Arthur Robert Ashe, Jr.
"Luck is what happens when Preparation meets Opportunity."
Google gives credit to a roman philosopher, Seneca.
I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious.
Vince Lombardi
We had some pretty good coaches, but the one who showed most of the technique had placed 8th in the '76 Olympics. One day he was showing some clinch stuff and explaining how controlling the guys head allowed you to control where he went, and in the middle of it his eyes lit up and he said 'Kill the head and the body will die'. After that he'd use that all the time yelling it out mid practice. Since it is the most directly MA related..
"Kill the head and the body will die." Coach Farina

More like, there are 10 types of people in this world. Those who understand binary code, and those who don't. ;)
