Hey guys whats up new to the forums but found sub101 late march this year and gotta say awesome site, well here is my question I recently bought the BJ Penn book of MMA and in it is a guard called the "damn good guard" ,now I can see how it would help in MMA but is it practical in a BJJ match? ,I would like your thoughts on this guard and maybe soon see some videos of applications with this guard in sub101

I don't have BJ's book so I am not sure what his Damn Good Guard is (must be good if he says it is). Next time I am at the book store, I leaf through and take a look to see what you are talking about. There are many names out there for the same techniques.

Sit tight...I'll have an answer soon.

peace

It looks like the Dam Good Guard is where BJ has the guys right arm trapped with an overhook (kinda like Eddies New York or Chill Dog just not in rubber guard) Then with the right arm trapped, he drapes the guys left arm over his (BJ's) right knee. Like he's about to slip it out for a triangle set up.

Eddie is basically in the Dam Good Guard in this clip right before he goes for the triangle. Except in BJ's example he has his right knee dug into the guy's left bicep. In this clip Eddie's knee is more in front of the guy's left shoulder.
