Not sure if any of you have seen it yet but in one of Jackie Chans fight scenes he uses an armbar.

Anyway, thought it was interesting that JJ is making its way into fight scenes in movies.

Discuss :)

Though I would love to see it, unless it is a lot of flashy flying attacks we probably wont see much BJJ in movies. Mostly because alot of the people wont know whats going on in the ground game part and would rather see some stand up stuff....much like the UFC lol

"BOBBY Z" IT'S A LOW BUDGET MOVIE WITH PAUL WALKER AND LAURENCE FISHBURNE, BUT I WATCHED IT ANYWAY AND IN MOST OF THE FIGHT SCENES THEY USE BJJ?!

First movie to use BJJ and the triangle choke was Leathal Weapon.

Riggs puts Gary Busey in a triangle at the end to finish the fight (the fight coordinator was Rorion Gracie).

Even Van Damm use BJJ in some movie (he's in jail, say a clip on You tube..he used a scarf hold shoulder lock and an armbar...this is VAN DAMM....guess our shit works huh :) )

I didn't realize it at the time Ari but now that you mention it Lethal Weapon did have some Jits. I haven't seen the Paul Walker movie but I think its great for JJ!

Even in Fast & Furious 2 Paul Walker pulls guard.

Oh, when Tyrese tackles him at the derby?

Paul Walker uses a guillotine in a scene from the movie Into The Blue. It's a little harder to notice because Jessica Alba wearing a bikini in most of the movie is the ultimate distraction.

VERY... VERY... TRUE?!

In the show 'Las Vegas', James Caan used an armbar to break Christopher McDonald's elbow; made a crunchy sound and everything. He was then buried alive.

so i just found thie today, and im not exactly sure ho to feel about this, dexter from the show dexter uses a rnc to subdue 1 of his victims http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKoKwWVyPFg&feature=related
a quick rundown on the show and character, dexter is a show about a serial kiler named dexter morgan, but dexter only kills ppl who have committed murder themselves, and have escaped the law, trained by his adopted father, a former homicide detective, in the ways of forensics and not leaving behind any trace of evidence
so u see my conundrum, its such an effective technique that he uses it to subdue sumbody, but at the same time, once they r subdued they will b killed

Had you all here seen FLASH POINT? It's an Asian film. If you're in for BJJ in a movie you should see this film. There were flying armbars and triangles and some wrestling moves like suplex. But majority of it was basically BJJ and when you watch the credit the actor had really trained very hard in MMA in one gym...

FLASH POINT.

Thanks Will, not sure I have ever heard of it. I may have to see if Netflix has it.

The point of this thread is to show that action movies and fight scenes are no longer just for the Bruce Lee, Jet Li etc type of fans. Movie execs, fans and choreographers are now turning towards grappling to fill their need for violence!

Its a great step in the right direction for the sport.

I think you'll like it Ryan. If not due to the story then maybe due to the MMA. It was basically a movie created to portray MMA I think.

How bout Muay Thai everybody? The titles Ong Bak and Tom Yun Ging from Thailand had made great impacts on the Martial Arts movie scene here in Southeast Asia. Great stunts and fight scenes.

You should see Tom Yun Gong man. It was also known as Ong Bak 2 and the same actor was the protagonist... I am waiting for another film that would be choreographed and starred by the same actor. Thailand has got some great talents...

Had you already checked on the Flash Point? I don't know about the realibilty of the site but I read that it only had 3000+ dollars on the US so maybe it did not work its magic well compared in Hong Kong.

The ones with juji-gatame, ebi-jime, and sankaku jime. The Jackie Chan one, Into The Blue, and Lethal Weapon all feature Judo.

The show is phenomonal. Dexter is a japanese jits expert. I know that he's not supposed to be using the RNC unless he learned if via Brazil, but hey, it is TV after all. :D

Dexter is a great show, I have been watching it since the begining!

Tony Jaa is a great action star, if you liked Ong Bak and the Protector, he has a few more movies too, Bodyguard 1 and 2, and I think he has a few more in the works.

Here in the US Tom Yun Gong is titled The Protector. Tony Jaa is supposed to have been working on several projects for a while now. I hope they get finished and imported to the US soon.

The real "Ong-Bak 2" started a few days ago in Thailand.
"Born To Fight" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0428725/) is not bad, too. "Flash Point" is definitely on my wishlist. Watched some scenes at youtube and they look amazing. Another movie i would like to see is "Chocolate" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1183252/) which seems to be more or less Ong-Bak with a girl ;)

Tony Jaa is pretty cool, Ong Bak was a sweet movie. Just the right mix of plot and badass stunts and martial arts.
