Going to be cutting 9 pounds this week to see how it goes and how I feel at practice on Saturday. Mostly using this article as a guide...

Anyone else have experience/advice?

Having wrestled all my life and then competed in BJJ tournaments, I have vast experience cutting weight.
My advice... if you are not competing at the world class tournament level, never lose more than 5lbs.
I have done several versions of cutting weight. In school, I would mostly cut water weight to make my 15 pound cut. I also reduced my caloric intake using a calorie calculator for the weight that I wanted to make it to.
In graduate school for bjj tournaments, I would do protein only diets and they worked well too.
Here are my keys to losing weight for events. Increase your cardio work out a notch every day. Some people wake up and say, "today I am going to start losing weight... let's run 7 miles"... they make it 500 feet and quit. Instead, they should incrementally increase the cardio to build up for the fight.
Next, change up the routine. Running, swimming, grappling, jumping rope, stairs, burpees and other exercises can be used to diversify a cardio work out.
Do a cardio work out before you go to bed after your last meal. This way your furnace will be burning all night. Sex counts if you do it right.
I am done with 'cutting weight.' I try to maintain my body mass within 5 lbs of my favorite weight division. If I need to drop 5 lbs, that is a 2 day task and I don't notice it in my fighting at all.
Good luck
