How many of the people in say Pan Ams and Worlds (gi) actually wear the kimono that they like instead of a sponsored kimono? This has always racked my brain (with most things not just JJ).

The causes of ineptitude can be traced to the mandatory down called money.-Serj Tankian

Who knows? I mean, some people refuse to be endorsed by something they don't believe in. I remember in my bodybuilding days there was this guy named Lee Priest who was asked to be endorsed by this company called MuscleTech. Anyway, they gave him a tub of the Nitric Oxide supplement that is supposed to give you a great pump when working out.... they told him to try it and give them a quote for advertisement. He came back a month later when the tub was empty and told them he got a better pump from a bowl of fruity pebbles. So, he refused to sign a sponsorship deal.
When in high school I ran cross country and we had Addidas clothes for our uniforms and warm ups but if it hadn't been given to me I would have never worn Addidas clothes.
So, I don't know. I guess it depends on the person.

Its kind of interesting for the JJ community though if you think about it. When getting into the sport and you want to find out what is the best kimono to wear you look to see what the "pros" are wearing, and it could be utter shit because the sponsor pays well, but you will never know...
I am the type that only buys something after trying it on to see how it fits and feels.

They have sponsors because they win. I think that if the gear were subpar, it would be an issue.

I am usually the same way, but when it comes to kimonos, I would have to travel pretty far to be able to try some on. Gotta love living in the middle of corn fields ;)
almost 2k man!
Does the gear really matter much? I mean if the gi has a decent Jiu Jitsu cut on the sleeves, legs and skirt length and is legal. I would think they all would be about the same.
Just don't buy an expensive ass Mizuno Judo gi. I like mine for Judo but it is a nightmare in Jiu Jitsu.

Oops...did I say that one out loud? :D
I need to get a couple more Jiu Jitsu uniforms. I can get Addias at wholesale. I would like to get some more of those GB a4 golds because they fit me right me out of the bag. But I hate to pay $130 for a cheap Pakistani gi. I have to move up a size with the Addias and then I have to get my wife to tailor them but I can get a Addias Competition Rio for $68. I can get their cheaper models for $30-$40. I think.

I plan on getting 2 more kimonos before long, and I have it down to 3 different ones lol.
I'm looking for a link someone posted on the forum for an online retailer that seemed to have good prices on uniforms. I think it was budo...something.

Nevermind I found it it was these guys
