There has to be a sweep or something from this spot. I find myself on the wrong hip often after a scramble to get half guard from escaping side control or mount. Switching hips is a bitch from this and you are already facing the wrong way so if your oppnent has any experience he his trying to lock your head down to keep you from switching so your fending off that....
My thoughts are to just maybe stay there and try to get a deep overhook on the arm you have the lock down on then sweep. Or a deep underhook then go to switch hips....
dunno.. thoughts

1 thing you can do is perform a lockdown on the leg you have trapped, once you get that leg trapped and locked you should be able to wiggle to your back and release and get to the hip you need / want to, or work from the lockdown. A second option is to bump your opponent and roll to your other side. Lastly (some people really dont like this option, but I am comfortable here so it doesnt bother me) turtle, and work for guard or half guard from turtle.

Depends on the opponent.. if they know they should be attacking my head relentlessly ( aka wrestlers ) to control me and pass then this is very very hard to do.

I'll look at those tonight... what I have been doing lately is similiar, just abandoning the lockdown and defending side control/mount.

If they are attacking your head so much, get some underhooks and sweep.
