We receive many emails and comments on our You Tube page. About 95% of them are positive and constructive. There is however, that 5% that isn't.

Most of the negative comments are by those who either don't understand jiu jitsu or can't separate sport jiu jitsu from self defense jiu jitsu. It's funny really.

Most of them sound like this: "I'd do this or that, I have a free hand. I can slam you, I can bite you..."

zzzzzzzz...oh sorry..nodded off there for a bit.

Yes...some moves you could. As we have ALWAYS said "Don't confuse ring (sport) for street and vice versa!" Some things that work in one arena won't work in another.

The problem is, many of these people don't take the time to READ our website and what we are about. They make assumptions without taking the time to really think.

If a move isn't working for us, we'll tweak it. We'll take and use stuff from others. Jiu Jitsu is always evolving and there is a lot of good stuff out there.

We started our site to give you options. What works for us won't always work for you. No move works on all people all the time. If you think so, you already limited in your fighting strategy, be in on the mat or in the street.

I agree, a lot of people who get in fights already know what they will do when in reality you have to assess the situation. I am surely not going to use a takedown until I set up a punch or a kick. People automatically assume that BJJ practitioners will go straight to BJJ in a street fight when in reality they wouldn't if there was a possibility of interference or space is limited.

In competition you HAVE to go straight into BJJ mode so its ok to use just BJJ. I wrestled for many years so getting into a sport where its ok to be on your back feels weird at first. Its like in wrestling I can leave my neck exposed and arms out because I know I won't get submitted but in BJJ I have to watch for my neck and arms. In competition you do not have to worry about someone reaching down and punching you in the nose because that isn't BJJ at its tradition.
