Now that I have the lockdown down, I find myself passively using it to maintain control and people are tapping out! Theres an older gentleman at judo who only practices newaza and I used the lockdown on him and he looked astonished. I'm guessing he's never felt a calf slicer before and didn't know if he should tap out or not and he was asking me what I was doing, so I showed him how and now he uses it  .

Is it cheap or unsportsmanlike (is that a word?) to use the lockdown to get a tap? I have long legs so I barely have to squeeze to inflict pain - I can see by their facial expression. I mean I can squeeze ALL DAY and not get tired and get taps. I have yet to use full force even. This seems kind of cheap, you know... I realize that 10PJJ turns it into an offensive position, but the rest of the world sees the guy on top as 1/2 way to side or full mount. It's easy to establish and effortless for me to get a tap. Would you use a move like this while rolling? No doubt you would in competition but when you are just rolling, do you see it as playing and practicing your game or a boring way to finish a roll?

Since I just recently unlocked the power of the lockdown (no pun intended), I've been using it sparingly, but I have been using it to see my, and other people's, limits.

Anyway (inside the rules) that you can get the tap DO IT! Its unsportsmanlike to rub it in, demoralize people verbally or just being a jerk about it. You showed someone what you did so your not hogging it yourself.

Keep using it but get other weapons in your game so you have a "go to" move when your opponents scout you out in competition or practice.

Dan:

The best submissions are the ones that don't take effort (man, I wish they were all like that).

Until some old school Brazilian decides to outlaw the F#$king lockdown at NAGA or ADCC (I kid), keep using it.

I should point out that this move is great against people who are new or have never encountered the 10thPJJ system.

It doesn't work against guys (as a TAP) who are use to the sysytem. As a matter of fact, I've got 6 bruises on my legs from lockdown attempts from my guys as I write this. Par for the course. Keep using it and may you be blessed with more success!

Yours in jits!
Ari

As Ryan said... you shared your technique and you didn?t rub it in his nose...
so no unsportslike behavior detected...

keep the submitting on Dan ;-)

Shoot, I'm definitely doing it wrong. I do seem to be able to hang onto the leg for a while, but it seems like it becomes a foot-pushing pressure war when I can make it work, and half the time their legs are too short or too far forward for me to get a hold of.... I'll keep working at it.
