I often wonder as Eddie's stuff becomes more seen in MMA (more so in the bigger shows) how much more crap people will give him based on the names alone. Like in the Burkman Hazelett fight when Dustin went to crackhead control. I know that Joe said why it was named that way, but do you think that will cause problems with the newer audience? To those that talk to Eddie, does he care about that at all?
I ask this mainly because I have married into a very religious family, and I think if they heard some of Eddie's terms they would discourage people going to a 10th P school (if there was ever one locally).

Eddie doesn't care and frankly, neither does anyone who studies the 10PJJ game. Names are names. Semantics. Yes, some of them are 'blue' and not G rated. But so what? It isn't like regular BJJ players don't yell out stuff that isn't profane. Hell, we all do it.
Did you hear when Joe said "He is in crack Head control."? That was the FIRST time in MMA that someone has said that. He kind of laughed because he knew many people watching would go "WTF?" It is new territory, even for the broadcasters.
It is nice to have names for each position, not only for competitions but to remember the steps. If one of my students (or me) have a problem, I can identify the exact problem and which steps it is happening in. That is GOLD in training.
Imagine this. You learn a standard arm bar from mount but are screwing up somewhere. In order to describe where, you'd have to write a rather long sentence or two and it might still be unclear. In our system, it is broken down more and you could say "between chill dog and kung fu move (which someone actually posted recently). I know EXACTLY where you are having trouble.
You think crack head control sounds dumb? Imagine what many westerners think of omoplata or gogoplata...or what about ude gatami (japanese) or the famous Mato Leo (which, by the way means KILLING THE LION and represents the Rear Naked Choke in BJJ).
So, that's that :D..rant over.
I agree that some names are pretty bad but I don't think 10PJJ is an older person's game where that would be an issue.

well also if your opponent knows bjj but not 10thplanet,then you have an advantage on vocabulary.your coach could yell out carni as uke rolls out of an omaplata, and bang armbar, unsuspected, and finished, and noone the wiser

I personally have no problems with the names, and I completely understand how naming every position helps you break down things and fix things easier. I was just wondering if Eddie has ever received much flak for some of the names he uses, or if it had ever deterred a student from joining.

Filling each division would be pretty sweet.
Sorry to hijack the thread...but it's in the same context. What the hell is a Nibiru Warrior? I'm guessing it has something to do with Planet X

Who knows if the names will even still be used in ten years? The Gracies learned all their moves by the traditional Judo names, then said "Fuck it, we're calling this an omoplata lock."

I ask this mainly because I have married into a very religious family, and I think if they heard some of Eddie's terms they would discourage people going to a 10th P school (if there was ever one locally). I am guilty of going to the sherdog forums occasionally. Right after the Hazelett/Burkman fight, somebody started a thread about the name Crackhead Control. In typical Sherdog fashion, it was pretty much flaming Rogan and implied that he was just making stuff up. To my surprise, he got relatively lit up by the rest of the posters for being a dumbass and not knowing anything about Bravo's game.
There were still a few people who seemed pretty clueless, but I don't remember one person bashing the system or Bravo himself. I didn't read all of the thread, so it might have occurred somewhere in there, but for the most part, people seemed to take up for both the system and the names. There was certainly a lot of naivety, even from the people supporting it, but it the reception seemed positive. If I have time, I will try to dig the thread up and post a link.
