Very cool video... to see the shock and disbelief in his own eyes as he comes down the tunnel is awesome... had to be a great feeling.

That is the exact moment he arrived on the scene!

That was badass, I can't imagine the flow of emotion after an upset like that!

Also, the move at the very beginning where you go from 1/2 guard to flipping up onto their back looks freaking amazing. I dunno if it is possilbe to pull off, but still looks sweet :P

It's possible. I've done it once, but then again that guy was a major noob that I did it on :(

"I'm never going to release this shit...NEVER!"

I'm totally going to say that in a tourney one day.

i know that it is incredible that eddie beat royler the best around at the time but didn't he get beaten badly in the next round by leo vierra like 14 to 3 or something? nice video though i just thought of that because at the end i heard eddie mention thinking about the next fight

Yeah Brett, Eddie got beaten by Leo in the next round. I asked Eddie about it and he told be some interesting things:

-he was riding so high on his last fight that he didn't snap into the fight with Leo until half way in.
-Leo is a great grappler

He never makes excuses to the Leo fight ( I have the entire match here in front of me) but can you imagine beating a guy that had only been tapped out once and that was by a guy who had 60 lbs on him.

Emotions and nerves KILL in competition. I am not saying that Eddie could have beaten Leo that night but I don't think he was mentally prepared for the WAR and skill that Leo brought to their match.

I have heard that Eddie was so sapped from emotions that he was just out of energy for the Leo fight. Not to mention like others have stated its not like Leo is a push over by any means lol. Leo did have a great move on Eddie though in that fight.

are you talking about Sakuraba? Because Royler did not tap to Sakuraba :) Eddie was the first to tap him in competition as far as I know.

From what I hear Royler NEVER taps from shoulder locks because he can comfortably dislocate them himself (double-jointed) and have them go almost all the way around. That was why he was yelling at the ref, and the Gracie's were so upset about that stoppage.

awesome video. It's cool to see him go from kind of stunned to excited as what he did began to sink in. As for losing his next match, I would think that would be kind of a predictable outcome given the rush that he was still on from the big win.

I can think of two moments in my life where I think I have been in a similar mental state.

The first was in high school. I high jumped 6'2". It's nothing special, but in my little po dunk school, it was a record and my personal best by 2 inches. I was so stoked that I completely half assed my next three jumps. I wasn't intentionally screwing the jumps up, but at the same time, I didn't care that I was screwing them because I just jumped 6'2" and who cares what else I did that day.

The second was at work. I closed a large settlement and made a pretty fat hunk of change from the commission off of it. It was, by far, the biggest settlement that I had ever negotiated. Later that day, I boned up a settlement in pretty hard core fashion. Again, just like the high jump thing, I didn't care. I was just kind of like "whatever" and fumbled my way through it while still thinking about how I raped and pillaged during the earlier deal.

That kind of excitement and joy also brings with it a sort of apathy. Thankfully, it wears off as the excitement wears off, but it totally changes your ability or desire to perform to the best of your abilities. I know that neither one of my examples can compare to Eddie's accomplishment, but I bet he was going through similar emotions when he lost to Leo.

Mario Sperry was the other person that tapped Royler.

I wondering that myself, but decided being 5'6 doesn't allow for those kinda moves and went back to studying MTT :/
