View Full Version : Throws/Falling question
Ari, when having a move done to you that throws you to the ground.. what's the proper way to fall? I notice that in the videos Dan always hits the floor to help spread the shock but is that it? Or is there a certain way you're suppose to do it.
and umm.. haha.. this might seem kind of weird, but in the videos when you do the throws, it actually seems like its really easy to get them on the ground. Is that really how it is, or is it just to demonstrate while the actual throw itself is harder?
thanks,
Andy

Andy:
Typically when gettin thrown, you take ukemi (falling) with the movement Dan demonstrates. This is to absorb impact.
Nothing is ever as easy as it looks. However, knowing how the body moves allows you to throw if you know what to look for. Look at HIGH level judokas..they toss each other all the time and they are playing the SAME game.
So, to answer your question: Some throws are easier than others. Our videos are usually done at teaching speed. If I amped it up, Dan would recieve the throws a lot harder.

Believe it or not watching Jakie chan movie can help you with this...
You want to move with the kinetic energy that is already in motion if that makes sense.
For instance if I jumped forward off a roof I would most likely hit with my feel all while I tumble forward to disiplace the impact instead of just trying to land square on my feet and absorbing the entire impact as I try to plant on my feet and "land" the jump..
