Hey everyone, i was wondering, do you think eddies DVDs are worth getting if i dont acctualy roll in a BJJ class yet? Im planning on it in the near future but as of now i only roll with friends, are the dvds still worth getting?

Eddie's DVDs are top notch but I would suggest getting a few months of training in before you go down that path. Get the basics down first and then you'll be better able to understand the principles on what he is trying to teach.

my 2 cents

I got one of his DVD's. And I don't go to any BJJ class. Like you, I just roll with a few friends who share my passion for BJJ.

Yeah, these really helped me out, very well done.

I would def. start off by watching Ari's videos. Practice with your friends. Go to a good school and eventually once you find out what kind of system your school does, what your instructor allows and what you feel more comfortable with I would get the Eddie DVD's.

Your instructor may not allow you to use the stuff in class so until you go to a school that is tolerant of it I wouldn't get it. You shouldn't disrespect your instructor.

I allready have Eddies Books and i can exucute most of the RG system on my friends. The school i will be attending is an MMA school so im sure it wouldent be a problem.

Theres Mastering the Rubber Guard, Mastering the Twister, and Jiu Jitsu Unleashed. The last one is pretty much a broad overveiw of RG and Twister books.

There is the Old Testament (MTRG) and the New Testament (MTT) as we call them. Jiu Jitus Unleashed is like the Dead Sea Scrolls....no one is certain what it was suppose to be about ;-)

I take back what I said...get his DVD (and no, I don't get kick back for this plug :p)

I changed my mind because I wasn't giving Tyler enough credit really. People can learn from video, even with no experience. If not, I think it would make me a hypocrite ;-)

If you get his books (and others) and look at lots of video, it will help you get an idea about things. What I should have said is that personal instruction will help even more because most videos can't answer questions or give you those small details with they sometimes miss.

Go nuts and have fun...that's an order!
