Hey WTF, Welcome to the Forum!

The main reason your friends are getting mount or side mount on you is because (more than likely), the lack of HIP movement the moment you hit the mat.

Learn to swivel your hips and turn into your partner the moment you go down. Control their hips with yor hands and turn into them, trying to get a knee on their belly. Train on shrimping movement and getting your knees to your chest.

Practice this over and over.

cheers and welcome aboard!

Shrimping is a basic jiu jitsu ground movement that is absolutley fundamental. It is also called Knee to elbow escape.

1) Lie on your back.
2) place both of your feet on the mat (sole's of your feet)
3) Lift your head off the mat a bit
4) Try to fold your body in half and touch your right knee up to your right elbow

how would you turn in to guard without exposing yourself to a twister if somebody has side control?
