View Full Version : Flexibility after an injury
I recently hurt my knee in a tournament by not stretching properly before attempting rubber guard. This was 11 days ago, and I can't get into the lotus as I used to be able to without feeling a pain in my knee where the injury occured.
Does this mean that I need to work on my flexibility from scratch for that knee, or is there anything I can do like see a physio about it?

perhaps you did more damage then you thought, you might want to get it checked to see if you haven't sprained any ligaments or anything.
I know when it comes to knees, there is a fine line between "feeling ok" and really hurting it.
I'm not sure. I'll go check it out, my girlfriend's best mate's mum is a physio.
The thing is, I was using Rubber Guard quite well last monday.

I have the same problem with my knee, except I've been having problems since this idiot pushed me down a flight of stairs when I was 9. Since then I've been having these "bruised" feelings on my left knee whenever I press on the right place just like when you press down on a bruise. However, other than the weird sensation and the occasional popping of my knee, I can still do rubber guard with my left leg. Think I should be worried?

Knee is a very tricky thing (I have been dealing with a damaged knee for 16 years now  ). Best thing you can do is go see a doc. Most likely there is some minor swelling that cant be seen by the eye, but puts enough pressure on your ligaments and such to cause you pain to flex them correctly. Go see a doc, thats the best answer anyone can give :D

I feel your pain. I recently underwent an MRI on both knees because of the pain that they give me. Hopefuly yours feels better without having to get it "fixed". Stretching is definitly a must for someone wanting to use RG. The stretch that I hate the most is the butterfly stretch. (I find it painfully stiff) But I would rather suffer through 15 min of discomfort than tear a ligament when I'm rolling. You are probably going to have to get an MRI so dont waste any time. Go see your Doc instead of trying to tough it out.
Okay, well I'm gonna go the doctors after training today and attempt use my weaker side for Rubber Guard as a precaution.
I stretch twice a day, once in the morning, once in the evening, for about 15-20 minutes each time. I sit in the lotus (or did, before my knee popped) for about 10 minutes after this unless I have training.
Random tip, but if you can, try and find "Stretching" by Bob Anderson. It's a great book with some great routines in.
