I was rolling with my instructor today and he got me in an inverted americana. i tapped but right when i did my elbow made a cracking sound. nothing is broken im sure, but i can't straighten my arm all the way without getting a shot of pain.
its weird, i know a regular americana and id imagine an inverted one are shoulder locks, but this feels more like an armbar thats been torqued too far
just asking you guys if there is anything special to do to help this heal? or just the basic ice while going easy on it for a few days?
thanks

if you heard it poppin it will be more then a few days...
Visit a doctor is my advice... Everything wrong with the joints is a p.i.t.a. and heals way to slow

In my experience, all a doctor will do is tell you to take it easy on your arm for a few weeks, unless your in significant pain i wouldnt bother - maybe try a physio?
I've never heard of an inverted amercana (and neither has youtube) do you mean a kimura? does any one know wat this is?

I was passing his guard, and i got into I believe half guard. either way, he got me in an americana from bottom position. It wasn't a kimura, my arm bent like an americana.
actually, when he torqued it, he had my bicep controlled, so my forearm was pushed back while my upped arm stayed still, creating pressure on my elbow, and "crack" think of it like losing in arm wrestling, how your upper arm stays still while your forearm gets pushed back. thats the best way i can describe what happened
it doesnt hurt too bad, im sure its not a huge deal. ill probably wait a week or so before i get back into the swing of things.

I popped my elbow in a comp from an arm bar. Tried my best to escape, should have tapped 1/4 of a second earlier. Same feeling as you describe. Pain when I fully extend my arm. Didn't hurt me much at the time. A few hours later I realised it wasn't good...
After a week or so my arm came good. Arms are generally alright... its pain in the knees etc that take a LONG time to heal.

I accidentally made some dude's elbow pop a couple times with a keylock a couple months ago, and he says it's still bothering and hasn't been to grappling class since. Weird thing was I didn't do the move any differently than I always do. Anyways, don't wanna freak you out but it might be worth getting it looked at.
