Alright, we'll I've been rolling for about 5-6 weeks now. This isn't a 10th planet system, but I do have some moves in my game such as lock down, whip ups, electric chairs and stoner control. Now this is interior tournament, including only the guys from my gym. A side from a few guys, we all have about the same amount of experience. Now I know my guard is A+++. Pretty much everyone I rolled with couldn't get passed and were very frustrated. I'm proficient in side control as well as scarf, and I have very long and felxible legs. Now I love chokes :) I've been working on slo triangles and gogplata from the mount. Also started drilling the 3 points of death. Any of you guys have any suggestions on what I should drill to be the most effective? I'm good with sweeps from guard and from mount to re-gain a dominant position, and have a fair amount of ease pulling of arm triangles. Kimuras on the other hand give me alot of trouble, mostly because I have a hard time controling the wrists. So, any advice for a fresh starter?

Advice is, don't "know your guard is A+++", because after 5-6 weeks, it isn't! Maybe compared to the other guys in your gym, but you'll soon find when rolling with other guys that your "A+" technique...well, sucks.

I found this out myself when thinking my electric chair was awesome. Well, it wasn't...but now I know exactly how to do it, courtesy of Eddie, I still don't catch everyone with it, but now transition properly when sweeping and passing.

Unless, of course, I'm wrong, then I'll see you in ADCC next month!

LOL JayC...

Congrats on your first go at competition! Have any video to post? Or reflections on what you got caught with, or caught others with?

I'm ignorant, forgive me-- what are the 3 points of death?

Thanks,
Georgette

the three points of death is a triangle exercise i believe. working from triangle on the left to tepee, to triangle on the right, tepee, rinse and repeat. my triangles used to be wicked slow before i picked up the three points of death.

good luck on your tournament. stay calm and you'll do your best.

I thought the 3 sides of death included the BOLT lock. Oh well.

Best of luck at the tournament. My advice to you for success, is to look at it like another day at the office. Win or lose, it should feel like a day off if you are training the way you should be.

Do your best and be proud no matter what.

yeah, i was thinking about that as i was typing it... kind of funny to work the right triangle if you have a left arm. whoops.

I hear you, I simply meant with the guys I roll with, hence the ones I will be competing with, all have alot of trouble with my guard, where as some more advanced dudes just rip through me :D

As for ADCC...keep alert ;)

Ahh right okay, haha!

Well if you know it works against the guys you'll be facing, just "guard" their ass.

sorry about continuing to be off topic, but i just checked out that bolt lock. "yeah. triangle on the opposing side of the arm you have isolated? good luck getting a tap with that." low and behold that's exactly what it is. i've squeezed the shit out of that lock in my noobish attempts at a triangle and never got a tap. i wonder what i was doing wrong.

*studies video*

p.s. thanks for schooling me, guys. new weapon to my arsenal. :D

Were you cranking the head towards your hips?

well i would use the typical gable grip behind the head to torque down as i bridged my hips up. the bolt lock's grip looked different first off in that it was an s-grip Ari used. i believe it's just that i wasn't gripping around the leg that caused it to fail. i'm reminded of the "hug the knee" rule of rubber guard when i watch the video for the move on the site.

Well, cranking the neck and squeezing the knees should do it...
