I was wondering why is there rash guards for the upper body but none for the legs?I happen to have some decently hairy legs but i do not feel like shaving my legs right now. :P Ide like to purchase rash guards for my legs AND my upper body. We are totally no gi jits.
Is there any reason why no one seems to wear lower body rashies? other then jerome who ive watched in quite a few vids.
I currently live in new brunswick canada. What would be the best places to get rash guards?
Why in the heck would you need to shave your legs?

Their use is to be worn under the kimono top to not get a "rash" from the rough materials rubbing against bare skin. The pants are not as abrasive as the top. Since no gi became more popular, you see more and more people wearing them for that.

ah okay. I was told that the rashes acutally come from rolling with other people. They might have like some kind of disease or something that can be transfered onto your skin. I did not know you got rashes from the kimono top.

Dont get me wrong, you can get rashes from rolling with other people, like ringworm, staph, <insert anything contagious by touch here> ect. Rash guard will help against that as well, but the best thing you can do is shower ASAP, take the correct precautions ect.

If you want some black Under Armour type bottoms, the cheapest would be to buy a pair at Wal-Mart. (though you might be bugged a little for wearing "tights) :)
I hear you though. I had one class where everyone and their dog was trying for a single leg take down on my left leg and the back of my knee was sore as shite. Maybe a pair of those knee length shorts that football players wear?

You can always ask Erik. Just do it very politely.

Wrestling kneepads or shooting knee sleeves would work also.

Just as a side note rash guards dont necessarily protect against diseases. I got ring worm when i was wearing one! and yes i did shower after practice:p

you CAN get ring and staph from rolling with someone who has it, no matter if you wear top and bottom rashies or not, bottom line is if you know you have either, dont roll. But, it is good practice if you wear shorts to class, to wear a bottom set under your shorts just as a precaution :)

That's just part of the game, man. My legs are pretty hairy too, but no one's ever said anything about it. Probably because they know that if they do I'll be all, "So what you want me to do? Shave 'em?", and proceed to tease them about it for the rest of the night, and probably give them an embarrassing nickname.

Under Armor seems to be the stardard out there Jer. DId you want them mainly for protection then. Don't gi pants help that?
Oh, 007jujitsu name is correct because of the different spellings of JJ (JUJUTSU, JUJITSU and JIU JITSU). It is that funny romanization of the the Japanese word.
I saw KUNG FOO the other day ;-)
I use Jiu Jitsu for the Gracie stuff because that seems to be the consensus. I use Jujutsu for the Japanese stuff but that is just me.

Well i pretty much just wanted the pants cuz i feel bad when im in the RG doing moves i have my hairy legs in their face hehe. Idc in a fight but like everyone i grapple with has shaved legs. I dont really want gi pants cuz y ou can grab on to that. idk they might grab on to it. Sometimes i grapple people i never seen before you never know.
My bad about the jujitsu thing! I just compared it to this sites spelling.

well i do the normal gracie stuff too ive watched many of the gracie videos. no one i grapple with really learned anything from the 10th planet system. I use both really so i have more options all around. :D

Sorry for the sort-of off-topic... but I have to admit, a man with really muscular, cut legs (or chest) is even sexier if they're shaved. I think the skin looks sleeker, the muscles show more. Dunno! Maybe I like the comfortableness with something a little more out there. :)

FYI, rashguards were a surfer invention way before they showed up in BJJ. I have found the lowest cost best quality rashguards from surf shops and they put UnderArmor to shame.

I suppose this could be true for some females out there. Being attractive to girls while im practicing jits is not really my goal anyway hehe. Either way my gf rather i had hairy legs then shaven hehe! :D more manly i guess? haha its a score anyway!

yeah i acutally looked up the past of rash guards on wikipedia lol. I think i might acutally have a shop that would sell some of those. I will have to check it out.

yeah true. Like my girl friend mentions that jits seems really like close to other guys. She see's it almost as a sexual thing. But really you know the guy under or over you is trying to get you in a submissions lol.. like she asks if some guys like get hard while grappling hahaha.
I totally agree you are thinking of self defence and trying to keep your limbs intact to worry about sexual possition or leh hair in your grill!

good point...a co-worker of mine that is a blue belt at Relson Gracie's school out here (so he is very familiar with different rash guards), well, his fiancee works for Quicksilver and she just hooked him up with a "rash guard". he used it in class and was very impressed. usally can find those non mma/jits brands a bit cheaper than the others

it sounds like ur girl fas found a new fetish that u may not particularly enjoy, male on male coupling, ive known quite a few chicks who seemed to b into this
anyways its not necessarilly about the submissions, that is the goal but the thing ur most worried about is the fact that the guy on top of u is trying to force ur jaw or throat to the other side of ur face, and so u dont rlly think about the so called sexual stuff cuz ur in a world of hurt and lookin to get out and pay the guy back

haha you think my GF wants to see my role around with other guys ? haha! She acutally told me she gets jealous of me rolling with guys incase hes like gay or something. She asked if i ever felt a guy get excited. you know what i mean. lol.
She laso presses how much she does NOT want me to grapple with other girls. hehe :D
But yeah i totally agree the danger/pain factor takes any sexual thinking or feelings away for sure. Its self defence! Ide feel really really uncomfortable if i rolled with some guy who REALLY liked it.
You poor guys.
Tammy doesn't give a shit what I do as long as I stay healthy enough to be able to go to work and pay the bills. We have been together for 20 years. I have been doing martial arts for 34 years.

Agreed-- I don't really care what the guy looks like, whether he's shaved or not, etc etc while rolling. Hygiene is a good thing, of course, but all I think about is position, pressure and patience.
However, even though I'm married and happily so! I still enjoy LOOKING. :) And fortunately the wonderful man I married is totally secure. He knows I like to look and he doesn't mind.

hehe wellI mean its not that much of a big deal if i don't roll with other girls lol. Shes just really protective of me because yeah we are really in love so i understand its uncomfortable for her.
None the less, she supports that i do mma and combats sports. Not only for my health but my self confidence too. I find its helps a lot.

yeah I would never cheat on her or anything like that. I see mma as nothing more then a sport that i love. MMa is a pretty male dominated sport, you must be "looking" a lot hehe.
but yeah im pretty fit acutally. Im only 19 and my health is really important to me so I do work out a lot everyday basically. Even if im not at mma or boxing or anything i work out at home. lol that post made me laugh. WELL i noticed that you have your arms spread out. while tom has his arms against his rib cage. SO it LOOKS like his tricep is really big compared to yours.
Take another pic and push your arm against your rib cage. It will probably come out looking like his arms too haha. not to mention he seems shorter then you so his muscles could seem bigger agian while you make up for it in height.

either way it dont matter because the real power of a punch does not come from the arms.
Its about using kenetic energy starting from the feet, up the legs, rotation of the hips, rotation of the torso and then the extension of the arm to transfer all that weight as fast as possible. :D
its About the best possible technique for kinetic linking.

I humbly believe that I displayed this in my last fight. My arm isn't reared back AT ALL. The rotation of my leg going backwards and my arm going forward gave it some extra umph.
Back to the thread, I NEVER roll without a rashie anymore. And furthermore, I haven't had any infections since taking Ari's advice on rolling in a rashie and gi pants.
I had staph twice last year, as well as cellulitus. Ever since I wised up on the attire I have been much healthier.
Thanks Ari!!!

Your leg should twist counter clock wise (if not south paw) so its like ur pushing from the ground but foward. at the same time you twist your whole hips and torso in the punch. like ur trying to hit him with ur shoulder. all that weight travels trough the extended arm.
basically if your leg was going backwards that means its going against the momentum. So thats less weight in the punch.
Thats good to know that rashies did help you a lot. Im gona be sure to wear them from now on. :D

I have taken a course called the science of physical activity. The course consisted of teaching you in detail about how your body works. I learned everything from what muscles are made of to how they contract like what substances are needed for the muscles to function. I learned about all the types of muscle fibers. I learned everything about what bones are made of, how they are alive just like your muscles. how to make bones harder. I also learned everything about the heart so how it works. same with the lungs, the brain, your blood stream, temperature of the body, how the learning process works, how reflexes work, how the levers on the body work. I learned about Nutrition, how protein, vitamines etc are used up by the body. How things like creatine, steroids, drugs, alchohol etc work on the body too. I learned about the body types; ectomorphs, endomorphs and mesomorphsphysics. I learned the body mechanics of movement. Stuff like momentum, force, the laws on newton that apply to our limbs and in general. We also had to learned about body mechanics and kenetic linking on sports.
It was an online live course so we had computers and head sets to speak and listen. We had to watch videos in slow motion and note every step in the movements like kicking a socker ball, swinging a golf club, Olympic weight lifters and we had to note everything on how muscles help each other. We also had to look at things like how babies progress at throwing a ball. The body mechanics they learn as they grow. learn to observe and correct proper body mechanics basically.
I have been boxing now for give or take 2 years. I took it upon myself to study the body mechanics of pro fighters and countless articles on how kinetic linking works in each individual strike. I bought myself a bag a while ago and everyday i practiced on the bag. I hooked it up in my room so i am constantly striking at it. I taught myself some muay thai kicks and knee's from studying their mechanics too. I get to strike with my legs at mma. Every time i strike i make sure im using proper stance, balance and technique using the laws of physics. I learned them all in no time starting slow. I know how muscle memory works so i took fighting quite natural. I was outscoring if not tying just about everyone in my boxing gym. 3 months of training and i was out scoring a guy my age and wieght class whos been there 4 years.
I have been doing mma course for about a year now. Ive taken to jiu jitsu like a fish to water. Thats basically why im here now to learn everything i possibly can. I love ari's videos because he really explains the physics behind every submissions. Just tonight I choked out 2 guys at a park, they wanted to mess with me. (rear naked choke and a Peruvian Necktie he tried to take me down)
hmm what else can i say. Ive taken it upon myself to learn basically every technique and coach myself. I also took a course at school that we study about the body (stuffi already knew in more detail) and we got to go to the local gym almost everyday to work out. I use to go on lunches too and we have huge bags at out school i use to go practice striking on breaks. OH and my teacher in that course sometimes let me have my own day . so i would teach a class, ide basically set up all kinds of unique works out stations using simply body weight and other low budget but very effective work outs that i do to keep in shape
so yeah im still quite young, 19 years old but im quite knowledgeable when it comes to anything about how the body works. I took so much time reading countless articles and videos to be my own coach. :D
edit: ive also done a bit of jits as a child, Aikido and i did some TKD.

So you are a tremdous fan of training but have not been fortunate enough to have garnered any more than 2 years experience at anything. That is OK you will get there. Don't give up. But don't confuse media with experience. Confidence in false notions will get you killed.
I'm book smart. I have one undergrad degree (econ) and 2 grad. degrees, (econ and computer science). I have trained in martial arts since I was 10 years old.
When I was 19 I thought I knew everything also. When when hit I 24 I realized I didn't know much. Now at 50 I don't know a damn thing. That is how the road travels.

yes i do love pushing my body to its limits and really reaching new highs in my conditioning. As you said ive never had the opportunity to really stick to a sport. My parents are very busy. They never had much time to drive me to any kind of martial arts courses. There is also a financial problem too, my parents never had much money to get me into sports that require a lot of equipment.
thats basically why i took it upon myself to train with what i got. I am still always learning every single day. Though I find myself knowledgeable about the body, I of course do not know everything. If i really was in that mind frame i would be totally closed minded to any advice or training tips. I love hearing opinions, reading training articles and possibly learning something new.
Now that i have my license an a job i can acutally get to training groups without being put down by my parents that cannot get me there or pay the monthly fee. :D
regardless the fact that i have never had a chance to stick to a sport. I took it upon myself to really learn the physics and the science behind training so that i can train that much more effectively. I would still consider myself advanced in my training and a good all around athlete. I do also train for fun with my friends, i usually train them as we go with what i have learned in the past years.
After all, the mind controls the body :D.
