I recently started learning judo/jiu jitsu... it's been about two months and i love it... my question is about my throat... sometimes i wind up with a sore throat... my glands are swollen and it hurts to swallow.. at first i thought it may be from being choked... but after class last night... i had the same problem... but i wasn't choked at all...
has this happened to anyone else? if so... what did you do? did you find out what causes it or how to prevent it?

maybe ur getting sick? or it could b allergies, sorethroats dont hapen when u get choked alot, sore necks but not throats, take sum meds and get sum rest
not sure if this has any effect but how clean is the dojo? Is it dark and dingy, cold, damp? Do they regularly clean the mats? Could be humidity perhaps?

thanks for the fast replies... i've never really had allergy problems and i feel totally fine other than the throat... the mats are cleaned daily but it is a bottom floor with not the best ventilation... thanks again guys

There are a couple of injuries that happen when you start jiu jitsu. The sore throat is usually caused by improper choking or not tapping fast enough. This can last a week or so depending on how hard the choke was put on. I can't even count how many times I've come home and said " Am I getting sick? I have this killer sore throat..oh wait...someone was choking the shit out of me a couple days ago."
Sore throat can also be caused by framing the face with the forearm (across the throat and neck area). Any trauma to this area will cause it to swell and feel like a cold.
Second possibility: You are gettting a cold.
Third: Possible Staph infection onset. The symptoms are flu like.
My 2 cents...but I would think its most likely #1....
