Did anyone else see in the first round of the Cerrone vs. Varner fight that Cerrone went for a waaay crazy ass invisible collar choke? It seemed to be putting Varner into freak out mode. I wonder how effective it really is.
Anyone know what the deal is with that?

Just to say, Eddie explained what was up with this in the UG. Apparently it's reserved for those long legged fools. That excludes me, so my interest ended there.

Yeah i noticed it too.... it was like he was going for mission control but instead of right arm grabbing left leg or vice versa he was moving his arm to the left side of varners head and grabbing his left leg with his left arm.... it was really strange but did do wonders for controlling varners posture....
seemed like it immobilized cerrone at the same time however.... didn't seem like he had anything beyond that. I kept waiting for some crazy submission..... oh well... closest thing i've ever done like that is clear the neck into chill dog before getting new york. but it was by accident.. :D

An extremely tough Brown Belt (the kind that beats good black belts) named Brian McLaughlin commented on it in another forum explaining that he has a purple belt that uses the technique Cowboy was attempting all the time with great success. They call it the "Rubber Guillotine":

looks pretty cool IMO. I'm sure Eddie will find a place for it in his game too.
So where Cerrone messed up was that he didn't have the proper tension on Varner's shoulder to press it into Varner's artery?

actually I still haven't seen the fight, but I have a lot of faith in Brian's knowledge. He's one of the best grappler's I've seen in both No-Gi and MMA.
anyone have a link to a video of the fight?
