So I just need to vent.
We had an inner-school tournament. After sitting around for about 2 hours, somehow I get put in the heavy weight division. Which is no big deal.
So I'm starting with this guy, we're working for takedowns. I eventually take him down with a leg trip. I pass half guard while he's got a hold of my collar.
So....like an idiot, instead of defending the choke, I go to pass and get mount, then as soon as a bring my hand up to break the choke.....fade to black!!!
Now I wake up with people standing around me, cause I'M THAT GUY, the guy that got choked out at a tourney.
I feel like such an idiot!! Cause while I'm no jits expert, I'm pretty good for my level.
I'm serious, I just can't believe I let that happen to myself. I did win the second match I had, and placed, but I still feel like fucking moron!!!
Any depricating comments are welcome, cause I was just being greedy, and I'm an idiot.
Thanks for letting me vent,
Forrest
If anyone gives you shit for it just tell them that they might have gotten choked out too if they weren't such a pussy that they had to end up tapping. Your body gave out before your will. Thats not something to be upset about.

It happens all the time just in normal training. It is the slow ones that get you, you know the ones you don't know if they are really working or not. Those are the ones you don't tap to.
I think it feels kind of neat but I gas out real easy afterwards.

Naw, you can be the hardcore one. I wasn't going to tap! I would rather pass out. I wanted to see if he had it in him to finish the job!!! Everyone is still going to laugh about it behind your back though. ;-)

that happened to me once, this guy got me in a cross collar choke from guard, i thought i was defending it well, even though it was still tight, but next thing evrything starts going real slow and my senses started fading, like evrything was far away, i barely tapped in time, and i remember it was very slow, cuz my partner asked after if i tapped or not

Yeah - I've seen someone start a collar choke while being mounted. The person on mount thought "I can't believe this idiot in giving me the arm bar" - he jumped up to finish the arm bar and blacked out from the choke.
Collar chokes can finish you off quickly - you gotta give them respect and defend them.

okay...Ill make you feel a lot better...
one day at a local tournament while I was in Colorado...
I rolled with a dude, it was like my 4th or 5th match...he shot in for a double-leg and I jumped guard. This double was more like a tackle though, his head was on my chest...we hit the ground with the top of his head in my chin and the back of my head on the mat....and *&%$POW!!*& I woke up with the horrible aroma of smelling salts. I have fought MMA, Muay Thai, Pankration and a zillion street fights but the only time i get knocked out is in a freakin jitsu match!!!! LOL
at least it gave me a cool story though right?

That truly is a great story... Have MMA matches to show us or even street fight videos?...:D

hahahah that is pretty funny..... but yeah nothing to be mad about... i got put to sleep about a week ago in class trying to show some new guys how to defend a head/arm triangle by reaching down and grabbing an "s" grip behind your leg effectively making a frame so your shoulder can't press into your artery..... yeah well that was all well and good but i should have grabbed the correct leg.. i grabbed the outside leg..... about 6 seconds later I was asleep.... with about 6 new guys looking at me like "yeah nice technique retard, that looked really effective at getting a quick nap..."... it was pretty funny...
I heard a loud horn in my ear before I went out tho.....

I still remember when I was firsted choked out. It was within my first month of training, it was from a scissor choke ... maybe that's the reason why this move became my favourite...it's all starting to make sense now...
Since then there have been many "near choke outs" (meaning: vision, hearing, (and sometimes consciousness) returned fully within a second :p ). Some were due to being stubborn, some were experimental(seeing how long one could fight it using different techniques(breathing, relaxing etc...), some "just happened" unexpectedly...
I don't like going fully out though, ...
