Most of my jiu jitsu is gi based at the moment so just wondered what aspects ppl like about gi jits

I like the control aspect at the moment have been working
wrist control to triangle - armbar - omoplata combinations

am also a fan of gi chokes.

Just picked up jiu jitsu university by Saulo Riberiro and is a great book for gi jits has given me loads of new escapes to try
and chokes to catch ppl out with will let you know how that goes.

I'm like you. I like the gi because of the control/handles. I also LOVE gi chokes. In my opinion you (at least with me) rely less on raw power and more on tech. I can pull more things off with leverage than I can just muscling through. Also, my nogi game sucks something fierce. Maybe that is why I like the gi so much.

Self defense oriented. More options. I know I know what if the guy doesn't have a shirt on? ... well wtf kind of situation are you in if you're rolling on the ground with a guy with no shirt on lol

Plus I like the fact that I can wrap my gi top around their neck lol

I am a fan of collar chokes.... Other than that the extra fabric helps me shed a little bit of extra weight :D

On the beach, on a hot summer day, at the pool, if you happen to be walking past a gay bar, etc.

I treat the gi like a shirt, just it doesn't rip as easily!

For self defense purposes learn to adjust your gi chokes for different shirts...they are not the same for T-Shirts.

I prefer no gi vs rolling with a gi but what I like best about the gi is that it is applicable to the streets (not saying no gi is not applicable). More than likely you will be able to take advantage of collar, sleeve, and pant grips which does make things easier.
