Yesterday I entered a nogi competition. I usually roll with guys my own size or slightly bigger in the gym. In the competition the minimum weight category was 65.9 kilo's and I weighed in at 53 kilo's. At the weigh ins there were guys taking 45 mins to shed the last few pounds to make the weight. I was the smallest and lightest person in the tournament. This usually doesn't faze me at all but I feel I can deal with the weight difference up to a certain point - 65.9 kilo's seems to be that point. I was beaten on points in the first round. The main difference was the strength I feel. At the start I was getting arm dragged and usually I can shrug them off but I was nearly getting pulled off my feet. The guy I was fighting was decent but I didn't feel his technique was any better than mine.
I entered the absolute division and got matched against a guy that was around 6' 5'' and im around 5' 3'' I did alright against him but eventually got caught in an armbar.
I think the main points I need to work on are my strength and cardio because I feel they were lacking.
Im going to try and work on these two parts but Is there any advice you guys can give me that can help me when im competing with much bigger guys?
thanks for taking the time to read this!:)

I would say work on your base. Make the weight you have count for something. I have wrestled with guys who make every ounce of their body count while they are on top. You would be surprised how little weight has to do with grappling when the guy or girl you are grappling with doesn't know about weight distribution.

Ari mentioned that Eddie Bravo feels like a heavyweight when on top. I would say work on that. Good luck

Weight advantages are going to make a big difference. Are their bigger tournaments you can enter where there will be smaller guys for you to compete against?

That one was quite a big competition but It was going by the officiall ADCC european rules so the 65.9kilos is the lowest weight class. If there was one at my own weight i'd definitley enter. For some reason there isn't that many nogi competitions that I hear of around where i live.
