does bjj have a set clinch curriculum?
just curious...
kenpo has extensive clinch work, as does Tae Kwon Do, but does bjj?
judo sweeps from the clinch.. when I did BJJ it seemed like the takedowns were a trunkated form of JJJ or Judo sweeps.

Kyle:
When you say clinch, are you referring to an over/under style clinch or a head control/plum clinch?
From what i have learned, in BJJ, there are tons of take downs taught off of the over under/ teed off position.
Hope this helps.

Definitely. The fundamentals in BJJ deal directly in closing the distance, working the clinch, and getting the take down.
Oh yeah! Anything you can do in Judo you can do in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. If you are in the street, drop them on their head. If you are in comp, maintain control and keep position.

From my limited experience, BJJ teaches you how to control the clinch, avoid getting hit or thrown, take down to dominant position.
It is grappling. If you can't control the ties, the hook-ups the clinch etc... There is no takedown. You will get killed on your the feet. But that is just me.

We drill tie ups and different takedowns AT LEAST once a week. But our instructor (a BB under Lloyd Irvin) is also a wrestling coach, so we have that influence in our cirriculum big time.

We had some of our wrestlers do a brief takedown clinic last night. Interesting, the key differences between taking down from the shoot and the clinch. Also learned a cool dragging arm takedown that can land you right into back control if done fast enough.
Wrestlers also shoot as low as possible which is funny against jiujitsu, since as I showed one of the guys, I would just tie them up in either half or full guard to negate their takedown since I'm not worried about landing on my back.
But back to topic, JJ clinch is usually head and arm control. In gi it's back of the collar and the sleeve. No gi, it's usually back of the neck and tricep. Wrestlers apparently don't clinch as much as people think since they'll usually bait with the clinch and then shoot (as least that's what one of em said).
