Hey guys.. found this move. It's a submission from half guard referred to here is that "Chim Bar".

Does this move seem compatible or even practical to the 10th planet half guard?

Yeah, it looks applicable from lockdown. It plays off of double underhooks, though the leg position would be backward. I also don't like the amount of space in the legs. It seems like dorsiflexing the foot and turning the knee in would release it pretty easily. I bet there is a way to do it from a more classic lockdown position. I will play with it tomorrow when I roll and see what I can come up with!

Ha ha

Nah, I meant is it adaptable to the lock down? Haven't had time to see for myself so it was just a theoretical question.

Do you think you could simply wriggle the leg free since there is such minor control on the leg? The rule of thumb is more surface area you cover the more control you have.

Just a thought.

That was my point too. Maybe having a real lockdown would give enough control of the leg to get the lock?! It is almost like the set up for an electric chair sweep off of a whip-up, really. Like a quick stop to test a submission before moving on. Worth at least playing with to see if it could work. Even if it doesn't, what is 5 min to try it out? I will play with it to see, no big hopes, but worth trying out.

Chimbar is a great technique, but it takes practice. It tends to work best for strong stocky guys, but I'm the exact opposite and I have hit it.

I'd put the technique firmly in the "nevelty" category. Fun to play with while training and slick as shit if it hits but it looks like you're going to wind up mounted if you miss.

For my money if i'm that sidways on a guy I'm going to try to take his back and if get a guy that loaded up I'm going to sweep and advance from a safe position.

That is what I try to do about 95% of the time.

Good point. Here's my dilemma though, my half guard is probably my best position. Whenever I gain a dominate position on a guy who is better than me it is usually through half guard.

My submission rate with the electric chair is better than that of my arm bars.

When I train, I focus on all aspects of my game but due to the size differential between me and people at my gym my half guard has gotten more mat time.

And it gets weirder, there is a competition coming up and I don't know if I should enter it or not. My instructor seems to think that my half guard game is so unorthodox compared to people in the area that I could probably gimmick my way through it. So I was going to try attacking with half guard (which is something I never due because I don't roll just to win) this week while I think about entering.

Maybe a bit off topic now but here is a clip of Tarsis Humphreys pulling off this move (at about 1:15 second mark it starts). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0nMlU5KpaU
