Learnt this choke at jits this week from 3 differant setups
a 2 from the guard where u let them pass and spin, and another where u attack and spin under and fianlly from side control which is my fav.

Anyone else use this choke? Think this is gonna be my go to move from side control in gi

Hey...I know that guy ;-)

I often find that the key to ANY good gi choke is being able to set it up but NOT having your partner identify the grip.

I love this choke. My problem is guys have figured out my setups for it. I can't get it much anymore. If I do get the grips I can't get them to pass the guard so I can spin. I like it from the mount too. Its my favorite move from the bottom of the half guard. But I'm having a hard time selling it anymore. If anyone has any ideas for setting this up I'm all ears.

I found the next progression from here is to set it up from the other side, they rarely see it coming. I will try to explain.

Assuming you are in side control on your opponents right. Put your left hand, four fingers inside their right lapel at chest height, holding onto the lapel put your elbow onto the mat on the left side of your opponents head & start to move into north south. Come around just past 90deg to the other side of their head, as you do put your right thumb in their collar behind the head.At this point you have it set up from their left hand side. Then as you come back to the other side you choke them. I found this very effective. Hope it helps. If anyone has a video Im sure it would help!!!!!

I think the grip is easy to set up from side control because the thumb grip is easy to get and then if they put there arm up to stop the 2nd you can take the arm, from the guard you can spin in yourself you don't need to wait for the to pass just make the space and kick your leg though, i am playing with coller grips at the mo i set up a cross grip and then switch sides so i can attack with the cross choke or the baseball choke.
If that makes any sense
