View Full Version : BJJG/Sub 101
Hey everyone, a post Ari made got me thinking and I wanted to try to help him and Tom out.
In this recession, which is hopefully coming to an end soon, business' have had to adapt to survive. Creativity is a must to pull together fresh ideas and to keep alive a great business model.
If anyone has any ideas as to ways this site, sub101 or the product line can be revamped we would all appreciate it. I know from talking to others that owning and maintaining a website of great size is not cheap.
Tom- I have to admit that one of the reasons I checked out your site was because I saw Forrest Griffin wearing one of the original Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Gear shirts. 2 things told me to come to this site.....
1. The shirt looked cool.
2. The company had to be cool because a charismatic and entertaining fighter was wearing their stuff.
I don't know if I am saying vintage is your best bet or if having pictures of badass fighters in your gear is the best. Heck, you live in Chicago..... Clay Guida, Stephan Bonnar or someone like that would be awesome.
Ari- I am sure BC has some great up and comers in other organizations.

Tom- how much does it cost to run an ad in mma magazine? I was kind of wondering if you would be allowed to run an ad with Sherk, Mayhem, Forrest etc. wearing the shirt without paying the royalties or getting sued?

Tom- I heard an interview with Al Ries, the author of the book "Focus". I had it all wrong really. Really opened up my eyes and made me see how great your clothing line really is and what potential it has. We all know that TapouT is to fight wear what the NFL is to football. Those 2 companies are industry leaders but other companies can capitalize by choosing a new niche to enter into. Hence, BJJG reproots. Your company is def. a new niche. It brings pride to those from country "X" along with their choice of martial arts.
Many companies are dying today because their product doesn't stand for something and their focus wasn't on what they are good at. Look at Ford, they are surviving because they are excelling in trucks. GM is failing because they are the largest automobile maker but don't really excel in any one vehicle. Same with IBM. The minute they ventured into home computers instead of just commercial computers they lost focus and tanked. This is why IBM only has around a 1.5% growth instead of Google who has around 16% growth.

Interesting insight. I always wanted to have a unique product because I liked it first and foremost myself and I didnt like the over the top styles of anything near my niche.
Dont worry Ryan Im not going anywhere. Like Ari said all in good time ;)
Good Tom, thats what I want to hear. I love this place and your product.
I read a lot of business and self help books as I would love to open a business someday.
