I do have a few standing head lock escapes on the site already. Many times I get repeat requests because people haven't looked through all the videos.

I would like to re organzie the videos into more applicable categories. Its just going to take time and that's something I don't have time to do yet.

Nice one Ari, last time I got into a sticky situation with some big Gorrila in a bar who was being overly agressive put me in a freakin side head lock was not pleasant. I had to gouge his mouth to get him to let go.

Cheers Ari

HAHA it sounds like you gave him a fish hook. You could have tried a knife hand to the crotch from behind.

Difficult from a side head lock in a confined space, my arms are also not that long.

Very rarely do I get into scrapes when I go out in a town where you will commonly see upto 4 bar fights a night. Small towns in Wales are more fun than you might think, we don't have guns. Just fists, bottles, glasses and sadly knives more and more these days escpecially in the bigger towns in the UK.

Yeah, the crotch strike will never work too many variables for it to not work. The best thing I can think of to get away from a side head lock is probably to get in a wide stance to get good balance. If he or she has got you with their left arm than you could grab the left wrist with your right hand, and then push the left elbow with your left hand and that could help you out. If you get a good grip on the wrist you can set yourself up for a good arm lock or you can get him to the ground.
It sounds kinda confusing it will probably make more sense if we watch it on film (wink wink).
If you get it hopefully it helps.

not sure what you mean by a side head lock.... like a guillotine or were you kinda behind him so your head would be sticking out the front?

If your head was sticking out the front then you could have possibly threw some knees or tried a sort of gator roll by grabbing his wrist and push into him..... when he forces back into you, you hit the ground roll and mount.

I was bent over, he had my head by the side of his waist both facing the same direction - not that I had the ability to look up. Typical school boy hold but the guy was strong and about 6'2''.

That was a great escape. I think on the street that would work pretty well, its fast and explosive. As always never disapointed.

Ari thank you very much, i was familiar with #'s 1, and 2 this week from a self defense class i took some years back... but the 3rd video of this week, the sacrifice is very nice, and i like how it is more capable for BJJ/MMA because it doesn't involve an eye gouge or groin strike... Very very very nice throw i really enjoyed this technique and look forward to using this when defending against a side headlock pre-hip toss and i have been looking for something to is an effective way to not only escape being hip-tossed/thrown around, but you show a great way to get from being in a bad bad spot, to having side mount:D Great job and thanks again

spamula, didnt submission101 put up 3 videos about headlocks? I thought the suicide roll was really good for escaping headlocks. Well i'm sure one of those videos would get you outta something.
