This reminds me of the first time you showed it to me. We were on the phone laughing uncontrollably.........again, I'm laughing uncontrollably=)
It would have been a very different ending unfortunately had it been anyone less then a Gracie or a highly trained BJJ guy. The guy probably woulda gone through the outside tables..... WWE style

Wasn't this a rematch from a previous match at the Gracie Fighting Championship that went to a no contest because Gracie used some illegal knees or kicks I don't remember for sure.

Why is it at every IFL event I've seen where a Gracie fight and win the whole entire team bum rushes the ring like they beat Fedor or something. I think that's rather disrespectful as the opponent is laying on the mat half out of it and they are lifting him up and going nuts. Just seems like it's a little much and makes them look like idiots I think.
Gracie's are all close relatives. Also, its no different then what happens in the UFC when someone wins. I mean, look at all those guys that hugged Joe Stevenson after he killed Guillard. Or Kenflo after beating Mushima (sp?). In Brazil that might just be the culture or custom. Can anyone confirm or deny?
Us Americans need to realize that we aren't the only culture here in this large world. Some cultures, guys kiss as a greeting. Who cares? Its culture. Its what makes people great.
I am sure Tom could tell us some Greek culture stories from his family history. Tom, is it true that when someone asks for a knife that Greeks don't hand it to them rather they lay it down if front of them? I read this on the internet.

Thanks Crooklyn, culture is fun to study when trying to figure out why people are the way they are.

anytime. people like to point fingers without any investigation as to why things may be the way they are. Nice to know someone does their homework=)

Not where we we are from. In my family if someone asks for a knife someone else is usually running!;)
Thats funny. On the Greek website I was looking at, it said the reason they lay it down is in suspicion that it would be used against them. So I guess it became habit.

It has nothing to do with culture it was a group's reaction to a victory I think you misunderstood my point in posting. Also when have you seen a group of 30 or more people going nuts in the octagon while someone is down hurt only a few short feet away? You may see the group of guys in the corner come and congratulate their fighter, but those guys bum rushed the ring like 20-30 of them and started to hoist Gracie on their shoulders like he beat a world champion in upset fashion. It's not a fact of me not realizing that I'm not the only culture that matters it's a fact of celebration compared to overreacting to a win when the opponent who competed just as hard is still being attended to from the result of that fight. Martial Arts is about discipline and respect for yourself and others. My point was it seemed like a lack of sportmanship not an misunderstanding of cultures so please don't try to lecture or educate me on culture differences and try to make points off my posts that aren't even there.

Easy bro. Its a forum when you make a point people make a counter point or add or agree etc....
If your going to get pissed every time someone does that this IS NOT the place for you.
What you are writting has alot of insight and on one hand I can see how it would be taken as disrespectful. On the other having the fortune to have interviewed Royce with Steph I better understand the background and competative spirit that is literaly BORN into that family.
If you have watched video or been to fights your WHOLE LIFE where that is how you are rasied to behave after a victory you would most likely be in there jumpining up and down too....
Again its great having people who are passionate and insightful but I wont tolerate treating other members like that so this is a warning. There are 1 million MMA forums out there this one WILL NOT become like 99% of those do.
Thanks and I hope you understand

I wasn't mad or angry I was merely stating a point I think others are reading way too much into my post than normal. I was not aiming to argue or fight to casue trouble I think other people are looking at it in the wrong way.

It wasn't me that flew off the handle.... Sandman :)
Wow people need to chill I didn't fly off of the handle I was merely stating a point it's wasn't a take on culture that's all I was saying jeez I wasn't mad at all just stating a point if it came off that way then sorry, but that wasn't the intent at all. I can't believe people took that as a point of me getting angry or flying off the handle that wasn't what I was trying to do or wanting to sound like at all just trying to have a spirited discussion not meant for harm. Sorry if it got misunderstood I didn't think it would come off that way.
