I dont think it will ever happened.. Mayweather is on the top of his game in boxing. He will not step into MMA to fight under MMA rule ever.

I'd Love to see it but would never happen.
The fact that Mayweather is talking about MMA is only helping introduce the sport to boxing fans around the world.
Mayweather is not a "power puncher" to begin with. He would run around the ring get taken down and then look like a fish out of water. It would be more a joke than a fight.
NOW in a boxing ring under strict boxing rules he would outclass ANYONE in the UFC at any weight IMO. Chuck included.
I agree. MMA fighters are fighters because they aren't boxers. That is why we don't see NFL linemen in the NBA. But then again, NFL linemen aren't dumb enough to challenge Kobe Bryant to a one on one game either.

Mayweather would work any MMA Fighter, if it was just a Boxing Match?!

I agree with tom, under boxing rule PBF or any talented boxer in this matter will beat a mma guy. MMA never too focus on boxing because we focus on everything.

I'm pretty sure everyone knows by now that Floyd has apologized for his comments and said he doesn't want to fight in MMA and that he meant no disrespect to Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta or Dana White. He also said he respects what MMA fighters like Sean Sherk do.

Yeah and I think the feud between boxing and mma should stop now. It's getting outta hand and for no good cause.
There's nothing to gain for MMA to beat up a boxer in a cage and there's nothing for boxing to gain to beat a mma guy in boxing ring.
The only reason there's a feud is because both sports is similar. Both are fighting sports and boxing pays more (only to crow drawing name not even have to be top level boxer). I respect anyone one who train combative martial arts the devotion they made to achieve what they have done. No reason for bashing one another at all.
I think a really good HW boxer could crossover with less difficulty than a small boxer like mayweather.
I can't articulate why exactly, but I think a big man with power and finesse might be able to hold his own, at least for a bit, just a feeling though.
As for speed boxers, I don't think their advantage outweighs their glaring lack of grappling.
If kick-boxers can do MMA, I don't see why Boxers can't, they just trade kicks for much better punching. I for one would not want to catch a "flurry" with 4oz gloves on.
I think a boxer could cross over. I am in the belief that with a really good wrestling coach, Muay Thai coach and some general BJJ lessons he could be ready in 1 year. He would be a light weight so basically the lightweights all pretty much have a limited amount of KO power. The difference between him and everyone else will be the ground game.

I agree here fully. Mayweather is known for his jab and move. He's not a big punch eater and he doesn't trade inside.
In an MMA ring, if someone clinches or catches over under, the fight goes to the ground. He'd have to do some serious work on his ground game to deal with a ground and pounder like Sherk.
That's just what I think of that. But then again, the question was if anyone cared, and to be honest the UFC would promote the shit out of a fight like that. People would buy into it, but I'd keep my money.

Sherk is one of the greatest fighter there is... Mayweather would not have stand a chance. Sherk survive knees right to the face and still manage to takedown Franca to win a five five minute round championship (steroids? but still).
Mayweather would be takendown and after wards he would end up being pounded...

Hmm how about a Boxer against an MMA guy with the 4 oz gloves? That changes the game quite a bit while keeping it simply a boxing match. You can eat a lot of punches with boxing gloves on, they take a lot of the shots if you do it right.

Well, when this thread was fresh back in '07, the Arlovski match wasn't even a twinkle in anyone's eye. Now, on 11 Apr, we have a great chance to see AA step into a boxing ring to make his pro boxing debut. It is a 4 rounder I think, on the Winkey Wright undercard on HBO, same night as the new and improved Strikeforce card. It is going to be a big night in combat sports!

mayweather can fight inside. he is very slick, especially dirty boxing. watch the hatton fight, he catches him with a sweet inside hook. easily the best pure boxer of this generation.
if he were to learn some takedown defense, he'd run through the lightweight division. penn ate up sherk with a simple jab and takedown defense. mayweather's boxing would far outclass sherk. i don't see many boxer's making a good transition outside of kelly pavlik, jermaine taylor, and maybe tyson. but he is not what he used to be with excellent head movement and a devastating hook/uppercut combo.
the heavyweight division in boxing is a joke now. way too many belts and weight classes imo killed boxing. plus all the athletes stopped doing boxing and started playing sports like football, basketball, and baseball.

Boxing? I'd love to see Manny PAcquiao against another MMA fighter (with a striking base at first)... Got both the Speed and Power... I wonder how he ends up with an MMA guy.
Arlovski trained with Wildcard Gym too maybe he met them there...

I don't agree, I know an ex pro boxer who is now a pro MMA fighter, and can still fight at a pro level in both sports. MMA guys aren't MMA guys because they're not boxers, they could be boxers who wanna expand their arsenal.
