When I hear belt choke.. I think of the hitman lol.. dont think its legal in competition.

Knuckle chokes though yeah, I've had one in comp and they never said anything about it.

Haha, the hitman. One of my faves. Not legal in comps that I know of. Knuckle chokes, I don't know in what sense you mean, so I can't really say.

Belt Choke of any kind = DQ

What's a knuckle choke? Like driving a knuckle into their throat? As far as I know that's perfectly legal.

You can find the videos of the chokes i'm refering to in the submissions 101 videos...
I just realized that each competitions has it's own rules. I guess that what i want to know is if the belt and the knockle choke
Can be used as legal moves in jiu jitsu...

I hope i'm making myself clear...

Yeah, the knuckle choke is totally legal. Or feed the hand in a touch more, put it on the wind pipe and call it an Ezikiel. Kinda dirty, so I reserve that special bit of pain for competitions.

I always thought belt chokes were legal so long as the belt was still tied on... huh?

Nope. You can grab your opponent's belt for control or throws, but you can't use your own to choke someone. I guess you could choke them with your belt, but you would be DQ real fast.

Eh - a wins a win lol just because the paper says you lost, memories let you remember you won because he was snoring while you were walking off the mat.

i found this one in the forum, i guess this is a controversial topic.

Note:

When I said choking with the belt is illegal, you cannot take it off and choke in the manner above.

However, according to the rules, you may use any part of your gi or his that is ATTACHED to you (or him) to submit or choke during a match. Problem is, some refs would call this illegal too because it doesn't happen often and therefore would assume it is illegal.

My Japanese Jujutsu instructor taught me this one:

Yup, I asked the IBJJF about this a while ago and this was their answer:

You can use your own belt and your belt have to be tied with a doble knot and one more thing you can use only one side of the belt after the knot
