full disclosure: you are my internet friends, so I would have no reason to make something up to make me feel better.

My junk doesn't fit right inside my cup. I can wedge it in before class but as soon as I start moving, either the head or like the skin of my balls slide out the side. This is the largest cup they had at the local big box atheletics store, and it doesn't seem like stuff I can find online is any bigger. Is there a certain type of cup I should look for?

The cup does not do its job if I slip out. I found this out yesterday when the helmet of my little man slipped out and then I got feel down on someones knee hard while trying to pass to mount from open guard. Of course I had a female training partner at the time. "You have a cup, right?" "Yeah but it still got it...."

I think she thought I was the biggest pussy in the world, which is fine, except for I was already extremely emasculated because I thought I just severed my dick head through blunt trauma.

I hear your pain. My junk is so big I had to modify a bike helmet to use as a make shift cup.

But I use a cup only for striking. I don't wear one for grappling.

I have the same issue, the tip of the cup catching my boys, or things slipping out of the side. I've never found a solution and when I'm rolling, I usually don't wear a cup. I still do for Muay Thai though.

Me too.. I ended up getting a bath and using that as my cup- even then, it still doesn't cover my whole member.

Its heavy (I have to use a little lift thing to move around) but it keeps it protected.

Cups were designed by women. I, like Ed, generally don't wear them while training. But it depends.

I think Combat Sports carries the most comfortable one though if ya wanna check them out.

Viagra is like a rollercoaster. A two hour wait for a 2 minute ride.

Anyways, if anyone wants some forum brownie points:

Can anyone tell me why CEB (Ed) doesn't wear a cup when he grapples?

(I already know) :)

I go with the shock doctor compression shorts and cup combo. The shorts tend to limit such unwanted movement, which allows the cup to do its job

I never wear a cup - maybe it's stupid, maybe one day I'll have no balls left. Train like you fight right? Walking out of the pub doors you certainly won't have a cup on.

Cups aren't allowed in competitions.

2 minutes huh, hmm, I probably wouldn't admit that to anyone ;)

And to the op, I have a theory on why you are having this problem. But then again, what would I know about cups.

Cause he's an old school judoka and cups have always been illegal in comp.

I never used to wear one either. Then everyone started doing nogi/mma which brought in the masses, which includes a healthy percentage of spazzing newbies. No way I'm not wearing a cup playing with spazzing newbies.

I have trained/worked with people who said, and I paraphrase, "I like wearing a cup, it means I don't have to have 'perfect technique' on every armbar, but I can still finish them and get the tap".

It's like using them as an extra tool, it is not my cup (of tea) but I can see why others would want to use them.

That is why they are illegal in IBJJF tournaments.

I also have a Shock Doctor "compression short/cup combo". I used it all the time when I first got it, but eventually just kinda stopped. It works well, and is comfortable enough, it just takes a while to get situated, and I'm fairly lazy. Though one time, I was passing guard, sort of jumped to side control, and landed cup first on the mat. I must say, landing on the cup hurt more than any accidental shot I have ever had without it.

haha, I never use a cup except when I do some really high-intensity stand-up. And to the original post, maybe you can get one tailor-made?

I wore a cup a couple of times in Jiu Jitsu(c). Both times drills techniques extensively from taking your opponents back. This seems to drive my cup into my throat. I just where a jock and a pair of shorts. That seems to work best for me except for an ocassional knee but I have taken a bad one, but I also quit training with white belts except for the 4 stripers that train in the blue belt class

I never wear a cup. I took a nasty shot to the nads once, and looked for my cup after that, but couldn't find it (FTR,it was during a standup... I lost that match :( )

In Jits though... never. I've only ever had the need for it once and that was because during an armbar I had bad... placement... of the arm and things got crushed... I lost that match too...
