...well, since we've seen what a dramatic effect the cage has (see: Shogun and Cro Cop), i sincerely think it depends on where the fight is held. if it's in the cage, i see randy "imposing his will" and dirty boxing his way to a grueling decision. in a roped ring, i see fedor having the freedom to know he won't get pinned against a cage and he can come out swinging, beating randy to the punch. but even i know better than to count randy out in ANY setting. on another note though, with randy leaving the door open by saying he's not retiring from MMA, and the fact that it appears that fedor is not in an exclusive contract, i still think the possibility exists for us to eventually see this fight. i'll be honest though, i have a bone to pick with fedor because, IN MY OPINION, he just showed that proving he is the number 1 fighter in the world and fighting the best isn't as important as competing on his own terms. that's just my two cents...

I agree it is really dependant on the rules used

Depends on rules like above posters have stated. If elbows are allowed it would be hard for Fedor since he is a known bleeder, no elbows, Fedor wins most likely. Just my 2 cents

cage goes to randy no doubt in my mind

fedor has a clear advantage in experience in a ring but watching a lot of randy's fights in my eyes he all ways seems to know exactly what is going on... i don't know if he would keep his cool like that in a ring but i would never be as sure about counting randy out... ever, like in the cage i say it would just be 99.5% randy would win, with the .5% is if fedor is not effected by the cage at all and comes out swinging and gets 1 punch that rocks randy and ends him but randy will "impose his will" with the cage so i don't see fedor doing anything but maybe... MAYBE a crazy out of no where submission as randy slips up trying to finish the fight

but in the ring i think that fedor will be comfortable and randy can not "impose his will" so i give it about a 55% fedor and 45% randy... i know he doesn't have his greko with the cage but he is still an amazing wrestler and is just a tough guy and all ways keeps his cool and i will never count him out of any fight seeing how well he can handle fights like tim silvia and gabriel gonzaga.. and rules are a whole other game... but i think randy will give up some advantages in rules to fedor just because randy will want to fight and fedor knows he can't give up a ruling advantage that randy would look pass just because he has that fighting mentality and he wants to fight and will sign the contract to what ever rule to get the other guy in the ring

the bad thing is the Fighters are so similar AND one thing they have in common is that they come out with a great gameplan

Hey Hadaka:

That's the first time I've ever been quoted in someone's signature....laugh..not really the most sophisticated of quotes that I've written....but I'll take what I can get.

My opinion: Fedor crushes Randy (and I LOVE Randy too)

Ari, i'm surprised you would lean so favorably towards Fedor. other than his big wins from ages ago against the likes of Mirko, Nog and the like, he just doesn't seem to be the dominant force his legend has created, with his lack of interest in fighting anyone big anymore. lindland had him on a slam before he grabbed the robes, and i think Randy is a bigger, better version of Matt Lindland. after beating Mirko in August of 2005, he beat a talentless Zuluzinho in 4 months later, an old and decrepit mark coleman, 10 months later, a kickboxer in Mark Hunt, then a true middleweight in Lindland. i sincerely think Fedor is ridiculous, but until he continually fights the best, i don't think he is as dominant as he seems. again, just my $.02

Dondo: Good points and I think you are right that the level of his opponents has been lack luster of late.

However, I really think the man has talent which is world class and top notch. The beast still beats in that Russian body and his Sambo and will power are crazy.

Randy is the come back kid, that is why its so hard for many of us to bet against him now.
My 2 cents

now we have 4 cents..what will we buy???

...hmmm...let's see...i hear there is this unknown, up and coming MMA gear company that has some cool stuff...there's this Tom guy around that may be able to tell us about it and maybe get us a discount. 4 cents may be able to get us something...i should think...

but anyways, he's (fedor) younger, faster, maybe deceptively stronger, but the Randy fight against Gonzaga showed me a lot. after seeing a couple of the shots he took from a considerably larger guy such as Gonzaga, that proved to me he has one hell of a better chin than what he showed against Chuck and i think he could weather the Russina Storm. he is definitely a better fighter today than what he was back against Chuck, while Chuck, well, i can't talk about what he has become, it hurts too much.

In the UFC Cage (Randy's home court really) could go either way.
In the Pride Ring out of US Fedor All Day Long.

Greco control does not work nearly as well with ropes.

I don't think Couture would fight outside of a cage, ever. He never has, and he never will. If they ever do fight, I'm sure Emelianenko has seen what happens when you don't train properly in the cage or the rules.
I give the edge to Fedor Emelianenko.
