I finally got my first competition kneebar. I have been trying for awhile and nailed one on Sat. I was shown a cool setup that Im going to try on Tues.

Lets hear some stories.

They always figure four their legs before I get there. So I figure four my legs over their legs and squeeze and sometimes there's a random calf cutter in that mess and I win.

I love kneebars. Everytime I turtle I look for that knee to go sneaking in between my legs for the kneebar.

There's also a nice setup from when YOU'RE mounted that I like a lot. I've never been able to finish the kneebar from there, but I have used it as a sweep to get on top/to their back.

I jus got a semi ;) rolling with nothing but leg locks, oh my god - knee bars in that scenario just scream orgasm!

I love them. Rolling through for the knee bar from half guard... I love that one.

My favorite kneebar set up is from top half guard. Posture up, knee on the belly, then spin to kneebar. If nothing else, you get out of half guard because a knee to the gut sucks.

I hate kneebars....legs are way less forgiving than arms and necks...you mess that leg up...it's bad news for life.

I try to stay away from them in a sporting environment....but that's just my style

I hate kneebars - too much chance for serious, lasting injury. I think they should be illegal in all tournaments.

The problem is that most people tap to late. They are not like arm bars or other locks - if you wait until it hurts, then damage has likely occurred.

I've had my knee kicked backwards by a dude a while ago, that being said, I hate kneebars. For the same reasons posted above.

I hate them being applied to me, but I like putting them on. I've tapped my sensei with one :D

I only really do kneebars on the mat. I imagine I wouldn't go for them once I start competing since I wouldn't really trust my level of self-control just yet. But should one be applied to me, I'd tap automatically. I had a knee injury one time where my knee got dislocated and had to go to the ER asap. I'm much better now but the fear of losing my knee again makes me doubt half the things I do.

If your rolling with people who will snap your knee if you don't tap... well, yeah, I understand your sentiments towards knee bars.

If the position is locked up, you have the heel, you're pinning their hips and you are going back... game over. No need to drive your hips into it. It's my same philosophy with arm bars. I've rarely had to activate the torque of my hips to get a tap.

Personally I think kneebars are the safest of the leg-locks simply because you don't have to apply them with any speed. ou can very slowly and meticulously apply pressure because once you have the set-up "if do right, no can defend."

My favorite set-up is from half-guard personally use the top leg to swing over and pendulum kick them in the armpit followed by a half gator-roll into the kneebar.

You think you could paint a better picture? I'm interested. Is this top or bottom of the half guard?

With any kneebar I ever got in, I could tell BEFORE it hurt badly that there was no way I was getting out. It just has this very uncomfortable feeling on my knee/thigh that I didn't like. No pressure even really needed to be applied except the little that starts it.

If you were rolling with a noobie though, that didn't know what to expect, I could see where the problem lies. But it's one of those things that after you do it the first time, you'll never forget what it feels like.

I like knee bars cause to me they are just like arm bars. If you time it right the leg is there for the taking with little resistance. Any time that I have gone for a knee bar and had to try and muscle it I lose the hold 9/10 times. I agree that the twisting leg locks are dangerous but not knee bars. If you are rolling with someone who is rammy with leg locks chances are all their subs are dangerous and you are going to get hurt sooner or later.
