So I was trying out alder's move(see 10planet site forum.) when your flat on your back with double underhooks in lockdown. However, i train in a gi, which leaft me open for a gi choke. Do any 10th planet guys who roll in the gi, know how to avoid getting choked. I was thinking of just sweeping while in the choke as I have trapped his leg, in lockdown and could trap one of his choking arms. But i would still be in the choke and against strong blokes i still think i would be in trouble.

I know i shouldn't be on my back lying flat but I was. So what would you guys reccomend. Has this ever come up when the Victoria boys train with keith owen?

cheers.

Looking at the lead elbow normally stops chokes, as well as tucking your chin.

If your in bottom half guard, change the angle a bit.. either get very low double underhooks or very high double underhooks..

You need to change the angle, when the angle is changed getting a choke on with the gi is near impossible.

Personally, I'd never get double unders unless its nogi.

Oh, the age old question. Situational defense depends on positional dominance. The gi will add a whole host of problems because of the collar. If you lock a guy down flat on your back while in your gi, you better hope your whip up is fast or you are just plain lucky. When I first rolled at Keiths school, his guys got me with the same techniques: cross collar chokes. No armbars, kimuras, rnc, leg locks..... Cross collar chokes! Why? Because I had been rolling nogi exclusively for years and didn't even think about the collar!

Now, 75% of my finished with the gi on are chokes. So lovely!

There is a time a place for 10th planet and some moves will work great in gi.... Others will not.
