I'm going to produce the Works Ver. 2.0 dvd soon. It will be a collection of techniques taken from our website put onto one disc. The first version had about 50 moves on it (that's wehn the site had only about 55). Now we have 120 plus.

Any ideas what type of techniques I should put on it?

cheers
Ari

Hey Ari,

What exactly do you show in the DVD's? Are they the same videos you have on the site already with more detail.

I would love to see some throws and sweeps, and of course the move I have requested....flying triangle!

The works is just videos from the site put on DVD. The LIGHTS OUT DVD is all brand new videos with more detail and different camera angles and close ups.

I just get a lot of requests from viewers who want to have the videos from the site on one disc. I did it some months back and was thinking of making a ver.2.0 again.

I wouldn't mind it if you made hats.

About the site though...... I wouldn't mind seeing either live feeds or videos of your classes broken down into stretching, drills you can do on your own or with a partner and rolling. I wouldn't mind even a video series where you follow one of your students through the process of getting ready for a competition. Lets say Dan was going to fly down to NAGA Miami, FL and compete. In the 12 weeks or so leading up to his competition you would make a weekly video of his preparation..... conditioning, diet, sparring and fine tuning his skills. This could be a competition prep kind of like what we see in UFC All Access but BJJ comp.

Thank you. I assume your referring to the All Access idea. I just think it would be nice for a first time competitor to worry about the performance and what matters instead of being scared that they aren't prepared or that they were worrying about the wrong things leading up to the event. See, having never competed I would probably worry about my technique and then neglect conditioning or some other aspect. I do not know the proper "culture" so to speak about a BJJ competition either. For instance, when I did Okinowan Karate we had to bow before entering the mat, bow to opponent, ref and judges. We then had to bow after fight to each and then bow before leaving mat. Look at the different bows.... Rich and Anderson put fist together and bowed but at end of fight after they hugged Anderson did a full bow with his hands to his side like they do in Karate.

I just wouldn't want to disrespect anyone I fight, the art or the competition organization by not doing something or by doing it wrong. I see the crowd reaction in a Muay Thai fight when a fighter doesn't dance or the thing they do to ward off spirits from the ring.

I think it would be neat to learn some proper techniques for slams, and things like that.

Personally for me in my opinion, I would rather buy the DVDs if they had moves that will never be featured on the site. Just thinking from a consumer's perspective, if you can get all the same materials on the product for free, why pay for it? Although you may feature a few 'exclusive' moves here and there, and go into an in-depth explanation with different views on the other moves itself, it's nothing someone can't figure out themselves trying it out a few times, and it's just an extended clip from the website.

I'm not sure if that came out right, kind of busy at the moment. But if there's anything that doesn't make sense or seems rude, I'll clarify.

But.. that's just the way I see it, so please don't take as any sort of offense, you have all my respect.

Andy

Edit: I guess I should say, you have 30 moves on the 'Lights Out', and although there's a few that have not been put onto the site, most of them are kind of common ones. Maybe a suggestion for future DVDs is to separate it. Instead of putting gi and no-gi chokes together, just no-gi or gi by themselves? Just an idea. And just to see how sales go, make a limited number of each, and then after that, some sort of supply-and-demand sales? Without the price raise of course.. hehe =]

You have a DVD of offensive moves.... what about a DVD of defensive moves. I always see on the UFC how a guy will get locked into a triangle and he keeps doing things that get him deeper and deeper. Lets get a dvd that will show how to get out of things safely, how to avoid the RNC getting sunk in and what parts of each hold should be avoided. For instance, what is the first thing I should defend against.... the hooks or the choke?

I was one of the guys asking for the clips to be put on DVD. As a beginner of BJJ, I'm all for having the basics on there, then move up to the more advanced techniques. I'm looking for something that can just remind me of moves, where I can practice with my buddies, without having to go the computer over and over.

Keep up the good work!

Lights Out features videos of chokes only NOT FOUND on the site (except the Darce (http://www.submissions101.com/chokes16.htm)which was taken from the DVD and put on the site. Lights Out is an actual DVD rather than a burnt copy of clips like the Works was. It's much better. I went into more details on chokes (like Darce, anaconda, triangles and also put a lot of new videos of chokes on there: Pin Choke, Belt Choke, Hell Choke, Pentagran REVISITED, single wing choke.....you get the picture)

I am not going to be producing anymore 'compilation' DVDs that take video from the website. Please see our other post on this matter.

The 'new version of the Works ver 2.0' will be called EARTH BOUND.

So how will you be able to add new things to the site if your new dvds will only have original footage and nothing taken off the site?
Won't there come a time when you won't have enough footage for both originals for a dvd and new things for the site?

No.

This is how I figure it. The DVD's I produce in the future will be specific to certain areas: Armbars, self defense, counters, leg locks. Each DVD will have specifics on each topic. I will 're film' the moves with better angles and zooms (like Lights Out). I might put moves that I already have shown on the DVD and might add new ones (or from different positions).

Many people email asking for Dvds even though all the stuff is on the web. they want the convenience of the moves on one disc so that they can watch on the TV or bring it to the mat. Other's just buy them to support us.

Don't worry, I'll continue to do what I've been doing and the site will continue to grow. Remember, I do this in my spare time and it hasn't become a 'job' yet. :)

Oh ok, for some reason I though what you meant by you not having anything that you have on the site on DVD was like if you have "Triangle" on the site that you will never have a "Triangle" on DVD but you actually meant you will have it on DVD but the footage and explainations will be better.

Maybe you could add some Jiu Jitsu takedowns. Advanced, and beginner levels. That would be pretty neat.
