What is your favorite submission? (Can't believe this wasn't already made!)

Mine is armbar from back mount, because it is the only "slick" move I can do with some success.

I also like the Ezekial Choke.

As funny as this sounds, I love the head and arm choke but from the guard. No one ever seems to be expecting it..

Guillotine is almost always there but overused. Its one of those things people try to do as a defense to pulling guard. It may not even be there but people grab the head anyway. Are they hoping it shows up or is it just a momentary distraction while they figure out what to do next?

Also, why is the can opener never used anymore?

My fav sub? Its tough but I really like the Kimura. Its easy and the second most "available" in my opinion.

Ryan, I think the can opener is not used very much because it is has a bad rep:
1.) It is a meat-head muscle move
2.) It is considered cheap
3.) It is a neck-crank

Maybe it is just the guys I train with, but they despise the move, my instructor is very quick to give me a thai kick when I use it, as he hates it too.

Also, I find that going for it on anyone over a blue belt will often get me in trouble, i.e. arm-barred or triangled.

Tom - Damn you and your slick-jitsu...lol. Flying armbars are extremely badass, I doubt I'll ever go for one though, I'm not very agile :).

No doubt about it, HAS TO BE a Gogoplata!!! See: Aoki on Hansen and Diaz on Gomi! a masterpiece indeed, and very rare. i do dig the head and arm choke from the mount too.

Gotta finish that in Side Control Dondo you know that you are good at Head and Arms!:)

I forgot about the GoGo good one that was sick that he put it on Gomi even if Gomi was checked out upstairs! Too bad he didn't get to keep the best win of his career over some weed.

Tommy Boy...i know side control is the way to go on the head and arm (as Kampmann pulled on McFedries recently, to perfection), BUT i pulled it off on Friday during free roll from the mount. i just buried my head on the side of his head and propped that arm up in there, and sure as hell he was going out and tapped. wasn't as if he was some black belt or anything, but it came pretty easy once i stretched him a bit. side control IS the preferred methind though, that's for sure!

I guess it could be done. But putting yor hand over your ear is a very easy defense from the mount angle but I guess if you don't know the defense...

Were you rolling at The Lab?

Tom,

You will have to come in to the gym and show me how to hit that armbar someday.

Santino!!!

Nice to see you made it onto the board!

You will have to come in to the gym and show me how to hit that armbar someday.

You will never live that fan boy article down no matter how big ya get ;)
I have about as much of a chance hiting a flying arm bar on you as I do becoming an astraunaught but it made for a great cover!

Tom, I think you and Santino need to get together and film a Santino vs Tom ADCC type match. Put it on YouTube and then link it up in here so we can all see it.

Whos with me?

i like my buddy Tom too much to see him go through that. Tom would be the first to tell you that may not be a wise career move...they don't call Santino, "The Italian Job" for nothing, hehehe! Sorry Santino, had to throw that one in there!

I'd be happy to roll with Santino but being that he was invited to the Abu Dhabi North American I think it would be safer I make a go at someone else!
I have a grade 1 separation on my shoulder and Santino is simply a better grappler than I am. He has countless tourney titles and and a Pro Record of 13 fights with 10 if them wins I believe all 10 of those by submission!

He is also the person who trained me MMA full time (as in no job just training daily) for almost an entire year as we were prepping for my Pro Debut.
He knows all my setups etc....

Im all for Santino making instructional clips but he is so busy lately!

I am up for making a video about the basics and include some grappling myself no problem at all!
Dondo do you have a Video Camera?

You guys still down to roll starting round June 5th?

I tend to use the americana from the mount and have pulled it off even in the guard. If in the guard I stack the person I also put my arm around the head instead of on the side, reason being it prevents the person from straightening the arm out.

I guess it could be done. But putting yor hand over your ear is a very easy defense from the mount angle but I guess if you don't know the defense...

If someone does that you just put your forehead in their elbow and pull their wrist towards your chest for a shoulder/elbow crank.
Anyway, my favorite moves are-
1)Crucifix
2)Omoplata
3)Twister

I'd like the gogoplata a lot, but my knees are too messed up to get it without hurting them.:(

My favorite move is a roundhouse to the head and their knees crumbling from under them, ala Gonzaga, or is that not the thread for that.
