did anybody else watch the fight last night?
overall i thought it was a pretty good showing, demian maia won his match, which im glad for, but im a bit disappointed he couldnt finish, and randy was totally awesome, controlled the whole fight, then sunk in that sweet RNC until coleman went lights out i was also anticipating the rolles gracie fight, coincidentally i had read an article in a magazine about how he was training all aspects of mma and not just his jiu-jitsu, so i was rlly hoping for a good showing. Boy was i disappointed, he did okay in the first minute or two, but it quickly went downhill from there. Sloppy and weak punching, very sloppy takedown attempts which the other guy easily evaded, and ending with him facedown on the mat trying to cover up while the other guy was raining down strikes |

Didn't get to watch it but I did read the play by play. I'm happy Maia won but dissapointed he didn't finish like he usually does. Its awesome Swick got darce'd not really an AKA fan. I'm pretty surprised Sonnen beat Marquart. And if Sonnen gets that title shot he's toast. I'm trying to figure out why Dana is thinking Randy is back and is close to a title run. Why because he beat a B level fighter in Coleman? I don't see him beating any of the top 5 LHW's. Don't get me wrong I like to watch him fight and usually root for him but I think his title days are past.

Coleman looked so small compared to his usual roided out self. Randy looked good but I agree his title days are behind him. As for Rolles, I expected so much more out of him, very disappointing performance. I didn't expect Marquart to get dominated like that.

Couture vs Coleman - I didn't see the point of this fight. Although I am a Randy fan, didn't really care that this was even on the card... Coleman just looked like he shouldn't have been in there. Most interesting part of the fight came from one of the non-participants in the form of Tito's shannanigan's.
Maia vs Miller - Glad to see him get the W. I would have liked to see him finish too. Sonnen vs. Marquardt - I was surprised. I didn't see Sonnen winning that, particularly didn't see him being so dominant. He completely controlled Nate. Fights that take place in a non-offensive guard usually bore me, but this was actually entertaining. Thiago vs. Swick - Good fight. Nice to see a lesser used choke be applied and finished. I would have voted this as the sub of the night over just another run of the mill RNC..... as it was definetely a more exotic choke. Serra vs. Trigg - ok fight, nothing much to say about it. Beltran vs. Gracie - wtf? I don't know if he just didn't train properly, or was just exhausted due to adrenalin dump? Either way it was a bad showing and not a good fight. Davis vs. Stann - Wow this kid looked good. A lot of rough edges but he completely dominated in the wrestling/control department. Wonder how well he'll pan on in the future. Danzig vs. Bulcholtz - I like Mac, good to see him get a W after a few unfortunate losses. I think he's got some skills. Guillard vs. Torrest - for some reason I always find myself routing for Melvin. I don't know why as he is sort of a prick? It's probably because he's so athletic/explosive but seems too under trained in the technique department. But he seems to have developed a little bit of humility? Good to see him avoid being subbed and not gassed out. Last edited by forrestang : 02-07-2010 at 05:58 PM. |

Pretty good card. Though, I was so dissapointed with Rolles. He fought so poorly, and shouldn't be in the UFC.

Although Rolles' performance was a bit of a nightmare I do think it's possible that there were contributing factors of some sort, so I'll judge him on his next fight.
Initially I was a bit unimpressed with Maia, but then took into account he was coming off the first loss of his mma career (a ko aswell) and thought he showed plenty of confidence considering. Good to see Serra with a win. Like to see more of him....especially a rematch with Hughes.
