That's what I said... well... kinda...

I feel TKD has good stuff. Some of the stuff I'd learn I'd NEVER use on the street, but the stuff that we DRILL I would use. Someone running towards you? A nice, push side kick'll drop 'em.

But I know that a lot of TKD schools are crap... one of my teacher's kids goes to an ATA school, and I just shake my head at her...

AHAHAHAH

I'm biased, i wouldn't say Japanese Jujitsu, cause the more traditional Jujitsu doesn't have gun defenses, rape defense and stuff like that.
Id say Goshin or modern Jujitsu. Its covers every single aspect of an attack or confrontation.

Why wouldn't it have rape defense? I would imagine some of the techniques could be adapted for it. And if not... the traditional "Kick in balls repeatedly" could be added

But gun defenses I could agree with... that's one of the reasons I wanna take Krav Maga.

IMO, I'm not sure it matters. There are plenty of martial arts that cover striking, throwing and the ground (various have been mentioned already), but they often lack the essential ingredient that makes it worthwhile: 'aliveness'. Training methodology is paramount, as with resistance training, any technique will be pressure tested for efficacy.

And no... I don't count MMA as a Martial Art
MMA isn't technically a martial art, it is a rule set, for which people train to compete under. However, that line is getting blurred now, with plenty of gyms offering 'MMA'.

Sometimes that is fair enough, as they have an active fight team with a verifiable record, and sometimes it isn't, when they do something like aikido, karate and tai chi, but call that 'mixed martial arts'.

Well in Japan it was very rare for women to train Jujitsu ,so the need for rape defense has only really become relevant in the last century or 2 .

No doubt the "original" form of krav maga(there are various schools each with different approaches) and several systems of eskrima/arnis. a certain system that i belive is VERY well rounded in eskrima/arnis is Kadena de Mayo due to the fact that it uses some JJJ. i could also TRY to name a lot of visayan systems that have incorporated JJJ, but the list is too long. philippines is a poor country and not much people have the money to afford guns, so filipinos(and filipinas) resort to unarmed martial arts. a very dangerous place, the philippines is.
