But as far any kind of gei choke is concerned......

Really like them because we always consider the self defense applicatiions. Unless you have to defend yourself at the beach, people are usually wearing SOMETHING over their upper body. We've trained the ones we know (limited compared to you guys) with every concievable article of clothing except for a tuxedo. (None of us own one and it would be wrong to hijack a kid on his way to the prom)

Thanks for posting those. Looking forward to trying them out.
Especially with students that have an extended wardrobe.
Somebody posted a video a long time ago of some Japanese politicians getting heated, and one judo throwing another, and attempting but failing to throw the next one to try to break it up.

It really stood out to me just how well a suit jacket works to grapple against with its big lapels.

Actually, I had a guy do some basic chokes on my tee shirt during rolling once, and I was surprised at how effective it was.

Tkd has many uses. It centers you spiritually, it keeps you healthy, flexible, and stable in your life. It does not protect you from ass whoopins or otherwise.

The only shirts we failed to achieve chokes with were some sleeveless ones (wife beaters) because sometimes they'd stretch out too much and the opponent would get out of it. (sometimes).
And t-shirts with the collar cut off (body builder look), especially if they were old and the material was weak.
Cheap sweaters didn't work too well, but who the hell wears a sweater, especially a cheap one?
Suit jackets are wonderful to choke somebody with, as are winter coats.

if u think about it, i think gi techniques work better for a majority of ppl for self defense rather than no-gi, when doing no-gi u dont have shirts and pants u can grab onto, but in real life who walks around with no shirt unless ur at the beach or pool? alot of ppl wear business attire to work, suit jackets are just like a gi, but nicer and more expensive, even collared polo style shirts are good enough for grabbing and choking, and i think most ppl will war a belt if they are at work

guys, just got an iphone a few weeks ago and i can not believe how unbelievably useful this little toy is as well as how light it is compared to lugging around a PDA and a cellphone. check out stephan kesting's iphone app:

http://www.grapplearts.com/iphone/

great no-gi moves and i think it's only $4-5 although you have to first download it on to your computer before syncing it with the iphone.

Since we're on the subject of suit jackets, anyone know any tie chokes? Aside from the Peruvian....

Man, I hate wearing a tie, always have. But especially since training in jits. You get grabbed by the skinny end of the tie, you be in big trouble. But even if you get grabbed by the big end (or both ends) it's like being a dog and having a choke collar around your neck.
I only wear the ugly clip on ties we used in law enforcement.
Fashionable - not hardly. But if they ever grab it with bad intent, ooh, mama, it's show time.

on my facebook today just facebookin it the fuck up and on the side bar is an add for jiujitsu iphone apps! Me not owning a iphone but being naturally curious clicks on the link to see who is offering such a thing finds a very bald stephan kesting offering me some basic cellular telephone based knowledge for $3.99

I remember Ari saying something about offering all of his videos for sale as an app or something, just wondering if you have considered a scaled down version for less cash.

I'm also wondering how facebook got to advertising to me for this kind of stuff, considering I'm not part of any facebook jiujitsu groups or anything. Probably my wife is getting paid to report to facebook behind my back...
